A Study On Head Clothing "Fengmao" Of The Wei-jin Southern And Northern Dynasties

Being one of the head clothing in the Wei-Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties,"Fengmao" is a hat worn on the head to resist the wind and cold and has high cultural value and historical value as well.According to the information in hand,the phenomenon of wearing a hat occurredas early as in the Neolithic era.In Qin and Han dynasties,the majority of people in caps are still within the northern minorities' tribes.And the men and women in hats were widely popular in the central plains in period of the Wei-Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties.The images of wearing a "Fengmao" seen in the existing archaeological data characters are mostly from the Northern tombs unearthed cultural relics.Especially in the Northern Wei Dynasty under the rule of the Tuoba Xianbei Minority,the culture of Northern Minorities and Han Group were fully integrated,and the "Fengmao" embraced its fashion zenith in this period.This thesis discusses the Fengmaoin three aspects through the collection and arrangement of a large number of graphic and text materials,and the research method of realizing mutual proof of physical objects,images and historical documents in parallel.First of all,it starts with the definition and trace of "Fengmao".It is to trace the origin of the word of "hat",and through the comparison with other similar shapes and structures of the head clothing,definingthat what a“hat” is,and to explore the origin of Fengmao.Secondly,according to the changes of social life in different periods,the shape and style of the hat and clothing collocation in categories,so as to confirm the characteristics of the hats worn by different identities.Finally,the popularity and transformation of the "Fengmao" well explain the reasons for its popularity.Due to the needs of a natural geographical environment and the political dress reform of the Northern Wei Dynasty,"Fengmao" was not banned but became a quite popular social fashion at that time,which reflecting the aesthetic concepts of the northern ethnic groups at that time either.Thus,from the two aspects of the lifestyle of Xianbei Minority people with braided hair and the popularity of women's hairstyle,the thesis discusses the social lifestyle reflected by the Fengmao under the environment of ethnic cultural integration.
