Electromagnetic metamaterial(MM)is an artificial structure with various extraordinary physical properties.In this paper,several novel metamaterial absorbers(MAs)and metamaterial polarization converter(MPA)are designed and investigated.The research includes:1.A novel metamaterial-based wideband cross-polarization converter is presented.The proposed MPA can efficiently converts the y-polarization electromagnetic(EM)wave into x-polarization EM wave in the frequency range of 9.8 GHz to 18.9 GHz,and vice versa.The unit cell of the MPA is very small and composed of four metal-dielectric layers.The asymmetric structures lay the foundation for the higher conversion efficiencies,while the magnetic and electric resonances between the multiple layers produce a broad operating frequency band.2.A novel metamaterial-based broadband absorber is designed.Compared with the traditional multilayer pyramid structure,the frequency of the third-order magnetic resonances in the twisted pyramid structure red shifted obviously,which makes the absorption bandwidth of the twisted stacking pyramid increase significantly.Our research also revealed that the twisted angle of the stacking layer plays an important role on the stability of absorption bandwidth.3.Two perfect electromagnetic absorbers are investigated respectively based on the ring resonators.One is a dual-band metamaterial absorber with wide-angle incidence.The unit cell of the proposed MA consists of double metallic rings with a rampart on each ring in the dielectric substrate.Compared with the plane ring resonator,the ramparts can enhance the wider incident angle stability efficiently.The experimental results are in agreement with the simulation.The other is an angle-dependent penta-band metamaterial absorber.The unit cell of the proposed MA is composed of a lateral spilt loop(LSL)intersected by four standing closed loops(SCLs).This MA exhibits penta-band absorption at normal incidence,and angle-dependent multiband absorption at large incidence for both TE and TM polarization.Through the above work,it is proved that the 3D resonant structure enables more flexibility and diversity to the design of metamaterials.
