The bistable composite cylindrical shell is a thin-walled circular cylindrical shell composed of fiber material and epoxy resin. The cylindrical shell has two stable configurations, one is expanded into a cylindrical shape, and the other is curled into a cylindrical shell. It can maintain any configuration without the support of external force, and can switch between the two configurations under the disturbance of external load. When the bistable cylindrical shell is expanded to crimp, and crimped to unfolding, this structure exhibits a high storage ratio and expandable characteristics.By applying this structure to the antenna for cross-application,a bistable monopole antenna with storage deformation characteristics has been prepared. This bistable cylindrical monopole antenna exhabits a great potential for storing and unfolding.Antennas on the ground during wartime are hidden, and they can also be stored and used on satellites. This study aims to prepare a bistable composite cylindrical shell monopole antenna, design a reasonable structure configuration, and conduct simulation analysis and experimental verification of the mechanical properties of the structure.Including the structure’s flexural performance, load deformation, modal analysis, critical load prediction and two stable configuration predictions. This work tried various possible combinations of bistable monopole antennas under woven carbon/glass fiber, unidirectional woven carbon/glass fiber, and metal copper foil and aluminum foil, and looked for the corresponding optimal structure from various mechanical analyses. The structure shows torsional deformation of the free end section under load and modal analysis, which is the weak position of the bistable antenna.Through simulation and experimental tests, the best mechanical performance and the most standard configuration in the two steady-state configurations are the use of ±45° braided carbon fiber and copper foil hybrid products, and the layering sequence is [C/Cu/C].The electromagnetic analysis of the bistable cylindrical monopole antenna aims to design a deployable bistable monopole antenna at an operating frequency around 400 MHz for satellite communications.Since the radiation pattern of the monopole antenna is omnidirectional, this work focuses on the simulation and optimization of the bistable monopole antenna through the S parameters of the structure. This article systematically analyzes the parameters related to the bistable cylindrical shell antenna, and demonstrates the actual working parameter characteristics of the bistable antenna through experiments. The optimal bistable composite cylindrical shell monopole antenna is a hybrid of ±45°braided glass fiber and copper foil, and the layering is expressed as [G/Cu/G],the main dimensions are: length 200 mm,diameter 35 mm,opening angle 10°;experimental test center frequency is 438 MHz,reflection coefficient-39 dB,Bandwidth is 119 MHz.
