In recent years, the growth rate of the output value of the construction industry has gradually slowed down, and the entire industry has entered a "new " period. The rising cost of labor, resource, and environmental has been forcing the whole industry to shift from relying on cheap production factor to innovation-driven growth. In the future, the main driving force of the industry will be the technological innovation, and the development model will be greener,low-carbon and sustainable.Green total factor productivity is a commonly used indicator that measures the quality of economic growth and technological progress, and its growth can be attributed to technological progress and improved efficiency.Studying the growth of green total factor productivity in the construction industry is conducive to understanding the innovation and efficiency issues in the growth of the industry from an economic perspective, grasping the true level, its source and constraint of total factor productivity in the construction industry under the constraints of the current energy environment, with the purpose for promoting green and low-carbon transformation and upgrading of the construction industry.Based on this background, the dissertation takes the national construction industry as the research object, and carries out the following aspects of research on its green total factor productivity growth measurement.(1)Analysis of China’s construction industry development, energy consumption and carbon emissions.Firstly, collect data on the economic development, energy consumption and carbon emissions of the construction industry across the country, and summarize the economic situation, energy consumption and carbon emissions of China’s construction industry, which helps to fully understand the current status and problems of China’s construction industry’s economy, energy consumption and carbon emissions;on the other hand, through the collection of construction industry economic, energy consumption and carbon emissions related data It provides data support for the next research on the growth of green total factor productivity in China’s construction industry.(2)Construction of the GTFP measurement model in China’s construction industry.Firstly, summarize and compare the existing indexes in existing literatures, and then construct the input-output index system required for the calculation of the green total factor productivity growth measurement;Secondly, the DEA model is selected as the basic evaluation method, considering the regional development differences of the industry, combining NDDF,the GML index, and Meta-frontier analysis to construct a hierarchical front-line GTFP measurement model. At the national level, changes in green total factor productivity are decomposed into changes in technological efficiency and in technological innovation. At the regional level, technological efficiency changes are further decomposed into changes in regional pure efficiency and in scale efficiency, and in technological gaps.(3)An empirical analysis on the improvement of green total factor productivity in China’s construction industry.Based on the selected input-output indicator system and imporved measurement model, the data was collected and processed, and GTFP growth index value was calculated. The results show as follows: based on a nationwide frontier,The GTFP of China’s construction industry has grown slowly from 2004 to 2017,with an annual growth rate of 2.0%,and it maintains a pattern of "east high and low west" in space;based on the regional frontier, regional GTFPs show some difference from that on the national frontier: the eastern region is almost the same, and the three regions in the northeast, central and western regions are higher, which further proves that the eastern region is at the forefront.Besides,GFTP of the construction industry mostly increased and then declined in 2008-2010,and this is related to the 2008 financial crisis and then a large number of infrastructures investment from the government;the GTFP in 2015-2017 grews slowly or even dropped, which is caused by the construction industry overcapacity, shrinking market, slowdown growth. From the source of growth, the technological progress played a leading role in the growth of GTFP in the construction industry, while the improvement of technical efficiency played a supporting role, and even sometimes its inefficiency hindered the growth. In the east, northeast, and central regions, the improvement of GTFP comes from technological progress, whilst both technological progress and technology catch-up effects are the sources in the western region. The change trend of technology gap in the northeast region is not obvious,to widen in the central region and to decrease the western region. The restrictive factors for the growth of GTFP are mainly the decline in scale efficiency and pure efficiency in most regions. In terms of specific provinces,Beijing has always been at the leading level in the country.Shanghai,Jiangsu, and Fujian are among the leading provinces, and Sichuan,Inner Mongolia, and Hebei.Other provinces have negative growth all year round and belong to the last provinces.(4)Differentiated strategies to accelerate the growth of GTFP in the provincial construction industry.According to the different constraints of GTFP growth of the construction industry in different provinces,it is divided into five categories.Different types of provinces need to take different strategies to improve, and these promotion strategies are divided into promoting the construction industry’s technological innovation, improving technical efficiency, and promoting, technology diffusion and strengthening of energy saving and emission reduction in four aspects.
