Study On Traditional Pottery Making Techniques Of Xiangyun Daying

The earliest pottery making in China can be traced back to the Neolithic Age.Later,there were records of pottery making from the Xia,Shang and Zhou Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.From the pottery unearthed from archaeological sites,we can see that there is a tradition of pottery making in every region of China,and the pottery making skill has been passed down to the present day.Nowadays,although there are commonalities in pottery making skills and finished products in different regions,there are obvious differences in soil quality,tool type,decoration,kiln for firing pottery and other aspects with different characteristics due to their distribution in different regions.Daying Village,Xiangyun County,Dali Prefecture,Yunnan Province has a long history of pottery making,which retains the traditional handcraft of billet making,traditional dragon kiln firing and the family inheritance mode.The local natural environment,mode of production,social system and folk customs endow Daying traditional pottery craft with unique cultural and artistic characteristics.In the process of historical development,Xiangyun Daying pottery has experienced the development process from prosperity to decline and then to the recovery of craftsmanship.In this process,Xiangyun Daying pottery is also in constant changes.The author takes the life history of three generations of pottery makers as the main line of field investigation,the author intersperses the changes before and after Xiangyun Daying pottery making technology became a provincial intangible cultural heritage,analyzes the changes in pottery making technology,ritual taboos,characteristic products,sales methods,cultural exchanges,and pottery making concepts,and deeply studies the development and inheritance of Xiangyun Daying pottery making technology.This study combines literature,field investigation materials and intangible cultural heritage policies to study the development,evolution,inheritance and protection of traditional pottery making skills in Xiangyun Daying.This includes the exploration of how it circulates in the market before and after becoming an intangible cultural heritage,how it displays performance,how it innovates and inherits,etc.In order to further find the development and inheritance mode of traditional handicrafts under the background of intangible cultural heritage and the support of national government policy.
