Children are vulnerable groups in the transportation system.Due to their short stature and immature cognitive development level, they can not find the danger on the road timely and accurately in the process of crossing the street, which threatens their safety. The immaturity of children’s crossing skills will lead to their unsafe crossing behaviors and unreasonable visual search methods, resulting in endless collision accidents of children at intersections. Therefore,it is necessary and urgent to understand and master children’s street crossing behavior and visual search characteristics, and improve their street crossing ability through targeted street crossing intervention methods.(1)Through the observation method, that is,the form of camera recording to collect the children’s crossing behavior at the intersection in the natural road environment.Through Chi-Square tests, the unsafe crossing behavior of children pedestrians, the number of conflicts between vehicles coming from different areas and children pedestrians, and the causes of these conflicts are analyzed from three aspects of intersection type, pedestrian crossing composition and gender,so as to master the characteristics and influencing factors of children crossing, and find out the impact of different traffic areas at intersections on children’s safe crossing, and grasp the defects of children’s pedestrian crossing ability, and provide guidance for the formulation of children’s crossing safety intervention methods.(2)Based on the theory of behavior spectrum, this paper proposes a method to improve the ability of young children to cross the street safely.Throuth the application and expansion of the concept of behavior spectrum, this paper studies the relationship between pedestrian crossing and the concept of behavior spectrum, embeds pedestrian crossing steps into the concept of behavior spectrum, and expounds the theory of behavior spectrum. Then,it puts forward the intervention programme of street crossing for young children based on the theory of behavior spectrum.Through the three parts of the intervention content, the children are guided layer by layer to adopt correct crossing behaviors and reasonable visual search methods for crossing the street, that is,to establish correct and standard street crossing steps, which provides a new perspective for the formulation of street crossing intervention methods for young children.(3)The effectiveness of the intervention method is verified through the experimental design and data analysis of children pedestrian crossing in natural road environment. In the street crossing experiment design, the children were asked to crossing three typical intersections on a designated test route. The children in the experimental group were given route test immediately after the intervention. In order to evaluate the sustainability of the intervention effect, the children in the experimental group were given route retest one month after the intervention, and the children in the control group did not receive the intervention and were directly tested by route test.T-test was used to analyze the differences of crossing behavior and visual indicators between the control group and the experimental group, and the visual analysis chart of eye movement data was used to moreintuitively reflect the effectiveness of the intervention method. The results showed that compared with the control group, the children in the experimental group paid more attention to the oncoming vehicle area at the intersections, the visual search area was more diverse, and the unsafe crossing behavior was reduced.
