In the context of "carbon neutrality",hydrogen energy is regarded as one of the important solutions to combat climate change and alleviate energy shortages.Fuel cells,as an important way to utilize hydrogen energy,have received extensive attention.In order to understand the development status of China’s fuel cell industry technology and explore the differences between China and countries with fuel cell advantages,this paper uses the inco Pat database to obtain the patent data of the global fuel cell industry from 2001 to 2021 for research,using patent statistical analysis,scientific knowledge map,LDA topic model and other methods to analyze and excavate the development status of China’s fuel cell industry technology,and comparing China with countries which have advantages in fuel cells.Firstly,the method of patent statistical analysis is used to study China’s overall development trend of the industry from the four perspectives of application quantity analysis,IPC classification number distribution,applicant analysis,and patent feature analysis.Combined with the method of scientific knowledge map,the IPC classification number co-occurs analysis is used to identify the patented core technology of China’s fuel cell industry.Second,screen patents related to core technologies,and then use the LDA topic model to analyze the patent texts of China’s fuel cell core technologies,mine topic content,and analyze topic strength and trends.On this basis,this paper compares China with Japan,the United States,South Korea and Germany,which have advantages in fuel cells,analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of China,and thus puts forward suggestions for future development.Finally,this paper draws the following conclusions.First,the technology of China’s fuel cell industry started relatively late,but it has developed rapidly after 2016.Second,China’s patents mainly focus on the research direction of electricity.Among them,H01M8/04089 devices for controlling gaseous reactants is the most researched subdivision.But when it comes to the layout of core technologies,China is at a disadvantage.Third,patent applicants in China are mainly based on enterprises and colleges and universities,lacking internationally competitive leading enterprises,and there is little cooperation between applicants.Fourth,China is at a disadvantage in terms of patent influence,importance,innovation,and comprehensiveness.Fifth,among the core technology topics of China’s fuel cell industry,catalysts,hydrogen energy production,hydrogen circulation systems,hydrogen storage and supply,and air supply systems have relatively high topic strengths.The topic strengths of hydrogen circulation system,fuel cell stack as well as hydrogen energy storage and supply is on the rise.Compared with other countries,China’s research strengths is at a disadvantage in the six core technical topics of bipolar plates,fuel cell testing,hydrogen storage and supply,air supply systems,hydrogen energy preparation,and fuel cell stack.Finally,this paper summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of China’s fuel cell industry technology,and puts forward suggestions for the future development of the industry from the national and applicant levels.China’s advantages mainly lie in four aspects: the patent scale is large and the growth rate is fast;there are many emerging companies with strong capabilities for research and development;some technologies have the potential to develop into advantageous technologies;some core technology topics are on the rise.China’s shortcomings mainly lie in the following five aspects: a late start and a relatively weak technical foundation;lack of international leading industry leaders;less cooperation in patent applications;weak patent influence,importance,innovation,and comprehensiveness;core technology mastery insufficient.According to the analysis of the development status,this paper proposes corresponding development countermeasures.At the national level,the following suggestions are put forward: increase scientific research investment in fuel cell-related fields,and establish a talent introduction mechanism;encourage diversified cooperation,strengthen transnational cooperation and encourage cooperation mode of collaborative innovation between enterprises,colleges and universities and scientific research units;carry out reasonable industrial technology planning,and step up core technology research;support excellent enterprises and cultivate internationally competitive leaders enterprise.At the applicant level,the suggestions are as follows: actively carry out domestic and international exchanges and cooperation;reasonably choose the direction of technology research and development;actively follow up foreign industrial technology information;improve technology research and development capabilities;promote the transformation of technology into excellent products.
