Study Of The Application Of Participatory Installation Art In Campus Landscape

In recent years,the wide use of science and technology is inspired the diversity of artistic works,and the participatory installation art is arising under such background.Participatory installation art is able to attract people to actively participate into the environment and artwork itself,gathering the public attention with novel forms and involving in various fields of landscape and environment.Landscape and environment in campus is an important space for students’ outdoor activities.With the rising awareness of environment,people have more requirements for the environment in campus.Therefore,the landscape which is limited to “Passive appreciation” is no longer catching the eyes’ of students anymore,much less understanding it.This thesis is intended to study the participatory installation art and the landscape in campus.To begin with the essences of participatory installation art,which means the connection among place,material and emotion,this thesis will discuss the application principles and approaches of participatory installation art in campus landscape,improving the landscape experiences of people who live or work in campus.Furthermore,with the help of diversified form,participatory installation art is a good way to show the uniqueness of school and raise the esthetic consciousness of students in multi-angle,promoting the quality of artworks in campus landscape.The thesis consists of five parts.First,in order to conclude the theoretical support for the application of installation art in campus,it’s necessary to study the definition,development history and characteristics of participatory installation art,teasing out the forms used in landscape.Second,based on the composition elements and trend of campus landscape,this part will analyze the existing problems of campus landscape correspondingly.Third,this part will do a survey among people in campus,understanding their opinions toward landscape and artworks in campus,as well as their need for new forms of art expression.Fourth,this part will analyze application of installation art in campus with cases,combining the purposes of educational significance,humanistic care and construction of environment.Fifth,combining the above theoretical research with practice,this part will analyze the surrounding landscape of Zhuoer gymnasium in Wuhan University.According to my landscape case practice,participatory methods can attract people in campus effectively,such as interactive devices,controllable communication space and intelligent sensing devices,combining with cultural elements for innovative installation art design,creating a unique campus landscape.
