Research On Spatial Optimization Strategy Of Small Towns In Southern Jiangsu Under The Background Of Industrial Upgrading

With the rapid development of urbanization in China,the role and importance of small towns in the transition zone between cities and villages are increasingly prominent.In the past decades,small towns attracted the entry of some industries by virtue of their advantages such as low land price and labor cost,and the agglomeration and development of industries provided a steady momentum for the space construction of small towns.However,the industry of small towns generally has the problems of low industrial level,low added value of products,and high dependence on land and other resources and environment.Under the dual role of globalization and marketization,the industry of small towns urgently needs to enhance its competitiveness and gain new vitality through transformation and upgrading.The industrial upgrading and development put forward new requirements on the urban space,and people’s pursuit of the urban space quality is increasingly strengthened,so the problem of the spatial optimization of small towns arises at the right moment.The small town in south Jiangsu refers to the towns within the five cities of Nanjing,Suzhou,Wuxi,Changzhou and Zhenjiang.Southern Jiangsu province is the most dynamic region in the economic development of Jiangsu province.It is also one of the most densely populated and economically developed regions in China.The industrial development of small towns in southern Jiangsu began with the development of township enterprises,which created the famous "southern Jiangsu model" in the whole country,and once became the model for the construction and development of small towns in China.Then the small towns in south Jiangsu took the lead in the reform of township enterprises,and made use of foreign capital to develop export-oriented economy.However,this extensive economic growth model with high input and high consumption has brought a series of problems to the space of small towns: small industrial space,scattered layout,mixed urban functional space,etc.,which seriously affects the quality of urban space and restricts the development and upgrading of the industry.Therefore,it is an important measure to solve the problems left over from history and ensure the sustainable and healthy development of small towns to explore how to adapt to the trend of industrial upgrading and development and to take reasonable and effective measures to optimize the space of small towns.This paper first studies and summarizes the development process,development status and new trends of the small towns in southern Jiangsu.Secondly,the specific process and characteristics of industrial upgrading in small towns in southern Jiangsu are deeply studied,the spatial effect of industrial upgrading is explored,and the contradictions and problems between industrial upgrading and urban spatial development are analyzed.On this basis,the paper puts forward the objectives and principles of spatial optimization of small towns in southern Jiangsu under the guidance of industrial upgrading,and puts forward specific strategies of spatial optimization from four aspects: spatial layout,land use,functional structure and supporting facilities.Finally,taking Jingang town of Zhangjiagang city as an empirical case,this paper expounds how to optimize and adjust town space based on its own characteristics under the background of industrial upgrading.This paper explores the strategies for spatial optimization of small towns in southern Jiangsu province under the background of industrial upgrading,so as to offer Suggestions for the sustainable and healthy development of small towns in southern Jiangsu province,and to focus on improving the spatial quality of small towns and facilitating their construction.
