Composite steel frame-reinforced concrete infill wall(SF-RCIW)offers significant advantages of lateral stiffness and strength, which is an economical system to resist lateral force. In order to cut the calculating time and the memory of computer in the finite element(FE)analysis of SF-RCIW,the simplified mode for reinforced concrete infill wall is a facing problem. This research is aimed at the investigation of the simplified FE mode of reinforced concrete infill wall(RCIW)connected only to frame beams. The possibility of using shear membrane element to the internal force analysis of SF-RCIW is studied.4 SF-RCIW specimens with the RCIW connected only to frame beams are designed.Using the plane stress element and shear membrane element, respectively, the FE models of RC wall in the SF-RCIW are established;the structural internal forces and lateral drift are simulated, the differences between the plane stress element model and the shear membrane element model are analyzed;the shear ratio, axial force ratio and overturning moment ratio of the RCIW in the two finite FE models are compared. It can be seen from the analytical results that the shear membrane element is feasible to simulate the RCIW shear force and the structural lateral drift, but the shear membrane element is not feasible to simulate the internal forces of steel frame. The effects of wall thickness and concrete strength on the calculation results of the two FE models are analyzed, the calculation results show that the shear membrane element are not sensitive to the changes of the thickness and concrete strength of RCIW.
