Sandwich panel–a classical composite structure,the I-beam design greatly reduces the weight on the basis of the great strength and rigidity of the material.Therefore,sandwich panel has been used widely in aerospace,military defense,high-speed trains,construction and other fields since its born in 1930’s.Nowadays,a great many scholars have studied the mechanical behavior of distinct sandwich panels from their own visions,however,relatively few studies have considered the energy absorption behavior of sandwich plates under different impact loads and the failure modes behind them.In this paper,the foamed aluminum sandwich panel is the main material,and the energy absorption behaviors,failure modes and dynamic effects of which are studied deeply by means of finite element numerical simulation combined with the experimental results of previous studies.Firstly,the sandwich panels with foamed aluminum and aluminum honeycomb cores were modeled by ABAQUS,which is a Nonlinear Finite Element Software.Besides,after the comparison with experimental results,the feasibility of the model was verified.On the base of comparison,the energy absorption behavior and failure modes of each layer of foamed aluminum sandwich panel under the ballistic impact loading of three different warhead shape projectiles were simulated.The results show that the deformation modes of sandwich panel when impacted by different missiles at different impact speeds have changed greatly,which has also led to differences in their energy absorption performance.Secondly,the influence of panel structure parameters on its dynamic effect was studied.The influence of panel structure parameters such as panel thickness,core layer thickness,core layer relative density and core layer type on the energy absorption behavior and deformation mode of sandwich panels was studied.Last but not least,based on the numerical simulation results and structural plasticity dynamics theory,the dynamic effect and mechanism of energy absorption of sandwich panel under ballistic impact loads analysis are analyzed.The research results of this topic have important guiding significance for in-depth understanding of the energy absorption behavior of sandwich structures under ballistic impact of three different warhead shape projectiles and the further optimized design of sandwich plates.
