The Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi was influenced by the Western architectural thoughts represented by Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn on the one hand,and rooted in India on the other hand,and carried out influence on Indian culture,society and climate.In-depth research,He continued to devote himself to the exploration of the combination of the two and developed native modern architecture in India.Among them,the concept of blending tradition and modernity is the core of Doshi’s creation of public architecture,humanistic care and attention to social life are the core of low-cost housing creation,the combined study of these two architectural types can provide a more comprehensive understanding of Doshi’s core creative concepts and techniques.This article first summarizes India’s local history,culture,climate conditions,and people who have important influence on Doshi,and combs his architectural career and thought development process,laying a background foundation for the research of Doshi.Based on the background research,this paper analyzes the representative works of public architecture and low-cost housing projects of Doshi,and explores the characteristics of his different projects.Based on the analysis of representative works,the author summarizes the local architectural design techniques of Doshi from three aspects: the transformation of master’s technique,the impact of the human environment,and the response to the natural environment.Through the comprehensive analysis of Doshi and his architectural practice,it can provide reference for the practice of contemporary Chinese native architecture from the aspects of open and speculative cultural attitude,architectural integration and related concepts,architectural people-oriented thinking,and natural climate treatment.
