Since Qin dug the Ling Canal, the Guijiang River has become the only way for the Central Plains to enter the Lingnan region, and he has assumed the historical mission of communicating North-South exchanges.During the Ming Dynasty, there were frequent disturbances in the Yaotong along the Guijiang River. The focus of the Ming Dynasty’s governance in Guangxi was to deter the Yaotong and control the river;during the Qing Dynasty,as the cultural and trade exchanges deepened and the economic center of gravity moved south, the Guijiang River became the north-south.An important channel for trade, the Qing Dynasty’s focus on Guangxi’s governance was to dredge the river and control trade and transportation. The thesis mainly takes the historical and holistic view of the river basin as the perspective, starting from the watershed situation and regional space, analyzes the historical evolution of the river longitudinally, and analyzes the relationship between the people in the river basin and the river horizontally.Focusing on the development and changes of the river itself and the impact of humans on the river, the interaction between the river in the basin and the human society is explored. The thesis takes the governance of the river course in the Guijiang basin as the theme, with the different social history of the Ming and Qing dynasties as the background, studies the governance of Guangxi by the state and the management of the river by the local government in different periods, and then expounds the historical changes of the Guijiang basin. The governance of river courses by local government involves two aspects: river management and river dredging. The scope of river courses includes natural river courses and artificially excavated river sections. In general, the government of the Ming and Qing dynasties governed the Guijiang River in different ways.In the early Ming Dynasty, the government used the guards to manage the river and recruited troops from Huguang,Guizhou, and Guangzhou to garrison them.In the late Ming Dynasty, they used Fujiang Military Defense Circuit to prepare the road.Administer the river. In the early Qing Dynasty, the Guijiang River was managed by the green camp soldiers, and in the later period it was patrolled by the navy. The different administrative systems and dredging conditions of the Guijiang River by the government during the Ming and Qing Dynasties are not only the different emphasis on the governance of Guangxi in the Ming and Qing dynasties, but also the embodiment of the interaction between the people and the river. In addition,in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Guijiang River Basin flood relief was mainly based on the government’s response, and the private response was supplemented. From the perspective of flood response methods, river governance was the main method of flood response. In summary, during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the governance of the Guijiang River Basin reflects the human-water relationship that people in the basin grew out of water, lived through water control, and lived in symbiosis with water.
