The eight passes of Taihang moutains are important cultural routes in the northern region, along with a large number of traditional settlements with northern characteristics. This paper selects its northern three gates, from north to south, the military capitals, feihu pass, and Puyin pass. The traditional settlements distributed along them are sorted out,and with the help of Arc GIS platform, the historical evolution laws and spatial distribution characteristics are explored.First, start with relevant historical materials, determine the geographic scope of the North three passes, filter out a list of traditional settlements in the area through a variety of local chronicles and compilation data, and use Arc GIS platform to describe the spatial distribution of the above settlements;on this basis, the evolution of the villages will be carried out.Visual analysis, restore its evolution process, and explore the historical reasons behind its evolution law.Secondly,at the macro-spatial level, combining elements such as elevation, slope, aspect, water system, and Ming Great Wall, analyze the spatial distribution of traditional settlements in the North Three passes area, using the spatial autocorrelation tools of the Arc GIS platform and the settlements under the multi-ring buffer zone of each element. The density statistics of the points can get the factors affecting the macro-spatial distribution of the traditional settlements in the North three passes area.Once again at the meso-space level, based on the USGS historical imagery,45 national traditional villages in the North three passes area were selected to conduct a temporal and spatial comparison of the historical imagery in 1970 and the Google satellite image in 2020 to explore their natural environment over the past 50 years.:Environmental changes of mountains, water, farmland, and the spatial form of the village: the evolution of the village outline, road structure, and building texture.Through the above spatial evolution, try to analyze their internal connections. Finally,at the micro-spatial level,on the basis of combing the common characteristics of traditional villages in Yu County in the northern end of Feihu Xing, the traditional village Qianzi Village in Nuanquan Town,Yuxian County is selected as a case study.Based on field research and historical data, from historical evolution,Spatial characteristics, industrial and humanistic characteristics, and analyze its spatial characteristics and influencing factors in the evolution process.Through the above macro-medium-micro and progressive research, complete the overall research on the historical evolution and spatial characteristics of the traditional settlements in the North Three passes area.Obtained the main reasons for the formation of traditional settlements in the North Three passes area.It was guided by historical political and military policies. In addition to the influence of natural factors in the mountains and rivers, the settlement site also formed an agglomeration relationship with Xingdao and the Great Wall;the construction of settlements has a unified ancient history. The structure of the fort, each village has its own characteristics according to local conditions.
