As architecture conforms to the development trend of the times, various new ideas of architecture are constantly emerging, while the object of attention or participation in architectural design is always inseparable from the human factor, namely, the user of architecture.Looking back on the architectural thoughts of the last century, the development and practitioners of structuralism headed by Aldo van Eyck have emerged in the Netherlands. They paid attention to the residential problems of a large number of people in the post-war city, and put forward a series of architectural concepts based on the concept of man and relationship.Starting from the dual identities of the whole and the part of things, the individual and the collective of people, they made the spatial exploration and practice of the architecture. Many architects and scholars extracted the design elements of the whole and the part, the relationship and the individual from the study of Dutch structuralism, which triggered the discussion of one of the branches of adaptability, namely the architectural structural system and its relationship with people.Under the overall concern of architecture, there are many entry points of adaptability research, such as adaptive reuse of architectural heritage, spatial adaptability of architecture, environmental climate adaptability of architecture, adaptive technology of component system, adaptability of urban and rural layout, construction of adaptive technology system and so on.But humans are the main body of the space and the universal object of adaptive design. Therefore, the author selects users as the research object, trying to study the spatial method which is suitable for people in the architectural design under the guidance of Dutch structuralism. In order to carry out case study pertinently, this paper first puts forward a theoretical perspective of case analysis. This perspective is mainly based on the form of architecture, starting with the two different mechanisms of the composition and generation of architectural form, and makes a preliminary evaluation and analysis of architectural space in Dutch structuralism.Secondly, the author introduces the definition of adaptability in the context of this paper, taking the users and their behaviors as the subject in the discussion of adaptability, and discusses the characteristics of the subject. Then, the space in Dutch structuralism is divided into two levels, and the cases of architectural space is studied hierarchically, the concrete path of the composition and generation of architectural spatial form are summarized through analysis. Finally, this paper deduces the adaptive spatial method in Dutch structuralism, compares the adaptive effect of similar types, establishes the adaptive spatial method system, evaluates the spatial adaptive effect of different levels in Dutch structuralism, and deduces the adaptive spatial type in Dutch structuralism with the evaluation results.Synthesizing the research of induction and deduction, the author proposes six social relations of adaptive subjects based on relationships and individuals, evaluates the hierarchy of relations, and summarizes the sums up the spatial expression methods of user’s universality and individuality in the spatial system of Dutch structuralism, and evaluates these expression methods. On this basis, this paper provides the design thoughts and framework on the level of relationships and individuals for the architectural design from behavior to space. The whole thesis contains about 49 000 words,231 pictures and charts.
