The equipment manufacturing industry is a basic and strategic industry that provides technical equipment support for regional economic development and national security,also considered to be the backbone of the manufacturing industry and the concentrated expression of regional comprehensive competitiveness.It can even be said that the equipment manufacturing industry is the “heavy weapon of the country” and the core of the game among the great powers.As one of the three major regions with strong economic vitality,high population density,and excellent innovation capacity in China,Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region undertakes the historical mission of high-quality economic development and regional coordinated development.In the context of carbon-neutral and carbon peak and the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei,this paper takes Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region as the research region to study the impact of technological innovation on economic performance in the equipment manufacturing industry,so as to hopefully have practical significance in advancing the high-quality development of the equipment manufacturing industry in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and promoting the industrial transformation and upgrading of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.This paper argues that the impact of economic performance of equipment manufacturing industry is complex and multifaceted.Technological innovation will promote the competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry,induce enterprises to invest in technological innovation activities,and increase the support for innovation activities.Similarly,the growth of equipment manufacturing industry will not only bring the demand for technological innovation,but also provide a place for technological innovation activities.In view of this,this paper makes the following research : Firstly,on the basis of reviewing the impact of technological innovation on economic performance at home and abroad and the theoretical background,it summarizes the relationship between technological innovation and economic performance,and puts forward research hypotheses from the perspective of the characteristics of equipment manufacturing industry,and constructs the model;Secondly,it takes the equipment manufacturing industry of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region from 2012 to2019 as the research object,listed 66 companies as the research sample,and two variables,technical staff input,and R&D expenditure investment ratio,are selected to reflect technological innovation capability,and also 13 indicators to comprehensively reflect the economic performance from the four aspects of profitability,development ability,operation ability and debt paying ability.Thirdly,a fixed-effects model is selected to analyze the lag of the relationship between technological innovation and economic performance,and to analyze the regulatory effect of the growth of equipment manufacturing enterprises in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region,and on this basis,to analyze the reasons for the differences from the regional and enterprise level differences,spatial pattern evolution and other aspects of technological innovation;Fourthly,combining the empirical results,this paper puts forward countermeasure suggestions on how to optimize technological innovation to improve the competitiveness and economic performance of equipment manufacturing industry.The conclusions are as follows: the impact of technological innovation on economic performance of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei equipment manufacturing industry is long-term and complex.Meanwhile,the input of technicians in the equipment manufacturing industry in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has a lag on economic performance and shows a non-complete consistency with economic performance in terms of spatial distribution.Moreover,the growth of the equipment manufacturing industry in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region can positively regulate the relationship between technological innovation and economic performance.And the research conclusions of this paper provide the following countermeasure suggestions for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to optimize the allocation of technological innovation resources and promote the improvement of the economic performance of the equipment manufacturing industry: Firstly,it should increase the number of professional and technical talents and improve the level of R&D quality.Secondly,it should improve the matching degree of capital and industry,and enhance the efficiency of R&D transformation.Thirdly,it should improve the growth of the equipment manufacturing industry and promote the sustainable development of the industry.Also,it should consolidate the main body of enterprise innovation,and promote the transformation and upgrading of equipment manufacturing.Ultimately,it should create the cooperation of industry,academia,and research,and promote the integration of innovation chain and industry chain development.
