In recent years, with the development of social economy, the process of urbanization in China has gradually accelerated, and the demand for national tourism has continued to rise. This has brought considerable impetus to the prosperity of the ancient town’s tourism industry, but the development of the ancient town’s tourism industry is renewing the ancient town. While a new round of vitality has come,it has also led to increasingly fierce competition among ancient towns. In the context of the continuous escalation of tourism competition pressures in ancient towns, the perception of landscape styles in historical towns has become increasingly obvious.Although the historical material remains of many ancient towns have been well protected, there are still problems in tourists’ perception of their landscape features. Therefore,in historical ancient towns, the perception optimization of the landscape style guided by the visual perception of tourists has become a problem that must be considered in the next development of the ancient town. This article takes Wanling Ancient Town in Chongqing as an example for research.Wanling Ancient Town is a national-level historical and cultural town with rich material remains and historical culture. At the same time,Wanling Ancient Town is also one of the typical representatives of the ancient town in Western Chongqing. In recent years of tourism development, the ancient town inevitably has fierce competition with other ancient towns in western Chongqing, and competition has led to the phenomenon of tourist perception convergence in the development of Wanling Ancient Town. Therefore,Wanling Ancient Town takes the visual perception of tourists as the guide for its landscape The perceptual optimization of style and appearance has a certain urgency. This article mainly uses the methods of questionnaire survey and content identification to conduct research, and the questionnaire survey includes cognitive map survey. The cognitive map survey allows tourists to draw a schematic plan of the ancient town based on their own memory after the tour is completed, which helps to explore the overall perception of the ancient town after the tour is completed. The principle of content recognition is to use real-life photos for visual guidance, allowing tourists to choose their favorite photos,so as to interpret tourists’ preference for different types of landscapes, and finally analyze tourists’ perceptions of different scenic spots in the ancient town. This paper takes the visual perception of tourists as the starting point, and the goal is to optimize the visual perception of tourists in Wanling ancient town landscape. On the basis of field investigation, summarize and summarize the landscape composition system of Wanling Ancient Town, and investigate the perception of tourists to Wanling Ancient Town landscape, and finally compare and analyze the actual landscape system of Wanling Ancient Town and the landscape system perceived by tourists.Discuss the differences and characteristics between the two, sort out the deep-seated reasons behind them, and put forward a strategy for optimizing the perception of landscape style on this basis.First, through field investigations,it is concluded that the landscape system of Wanling Ancient Town is divided into material and non-material elements. The material elements are divided into macro-level and micro-level.The macro-level includes landscape skeleton, functional partition, spatial structure and skyline.,The micro-level includes roads and signs.Roads are divided into characteristic roads and ordinary roads.Signs are divided into architectural signs, construction signs and natural signs.Intangible elements are divided into immigration culture, clan and religious culture, business culture, military culture and folk culture.Secondly, the investigation explores the tourists’ perception of the landscape of Wanling Ancient Town, and compares it with the actual landscape system of Wanling Ancient Town.It is found that its perception characteristics are: at the macro level of the physical landscape, the landscape skeleton can be fully perceived by tourists, and its functions The perception of zoning presents the characteristics of “single zone”,the perception of spatial structure shows the characteristics of high perception of the central structure and low perception of the edge structure. The perception of the skyline is mostly at a non-vertical angle. At the micro level, roads and signs are perceived near the T-shaped main axis of the ancient town The highest degree. The perception of non-material landscape style is low and is greatly affected by the three factors of its physical carrier geographic location, cultural expression, and exhibition season time.It is concluded that the difference in perception is caused by the perception process and the way of perception by tourists.Caused by insufficient. Finally, based on the previous research,a landscape perception optimization strategy is proposed: At the macro level of the physical landscape, the perception process optimization starts from the two aspects of increasing the sense of expectation of tourists before traveling and the tourist route planning of Wanling Ancient Town, and the perception approach optimization starts with the identification system; At the micro level of the material landscape, the optimization of the perception process starts with the perfect setting of viewing points, and the optimization of the perception approach starts with the perfect expression of scenic spots or scenery. In terms of the non-material landscape, the optimization of the perception process and the perception approach starts with the improvement of the promotion of publicity signs.
