Switched reluctance machine(SRM)with simple doubly-salient structure has been widely studied and concerned.Besides,SRM is suitable for harsh conditions with no use of permanent magnet.Recently,the dual armature winding(DA-)SRM was proposed.Compared with the conventional SRM,the DA-SRM has higher torque density and power density due to its rotor armature winding.Based on the topology of6-stator-pole/4-rotor-pole DA-SRM,the relationship between the electromagnetic torque,inductance and current harmonic frequency is deduced.Further,this paper presents a dual armature winding variable flux reluctance machine(DA-VFRM).The operation principle and torque production mechanism of the DA-VFRM are introduced.The key dimensional parameters and current parameters of the DA-VFRM are analyzed by finite element(FE)methods.Compared with the other electrically excited machine,the DA-VFRM exhibits higher torque density and better fault-tolerance capability.Finally,a prototype machine is manufactured and tested to validate the FE results.
