Roles Of Local (Area) Planning In Enhancing Urban-rural Linkages Throgh Services Provisions

Urban-Rural linkages as a strategy to enhance equitable growth for both rural and urban areas,with the focus of involving both areas into economic prosperity through spatial planning and service provision.URL involves many aspects that are interlinked in a complex form that reflects the livelihoods of the communities in both urban and rural parts.Leaving no space and no one behind,as the moto to stimulate the improvements of both urban and rural continuum also associated with the enhancements of materials sharing,knowledge and experience exchanges and form a mutual benefit for both of urban and rural populations.Hence,the main focus of this study was to determine the roles of local area planning in enhancing urban-rural linkages through services provision,in Mahonda local town as a case,within the North ’B’ District of Zanzibar.The adoption of case study design,helped the researcher to conduct this study effectively and efficiently,with both qualitative and quantitative approaches being used to acquire genuine information within the study area.The study had a total of 139 samples where 130 are the residents,3 North ’B’ District Officers and 3,Urban planning officers,from the Do URP.Also,the local leaders from a Shehia level took part as an important sample for this study as well.Consequently,data were collected with the bits of help of various tools and methods namely;interview,observation,Focus group Discussion,Questionnaire and surveying.To attain the valuable results from the findings the researcher categorised the main focus of the study into three specific objectives namely: To determine the influence of local town planning with services provision approach in strengthening urban-rural relationships.To examine the best approach that can be applied in local town planning to uphold linkages and equity in services.To determine the advantages of indorsing Urban-Rural Linkages of the local town with equity in services provision.To accomplish the researcher’s purposes some methodologies were adopted as a result of defining the research gap currently facing the town from attaining the effective linkages and weakening the availability of the basic amenities.And thus,results make the town relatively week in terms of economic growth,proper spatial growth and social wellbeing improvements.With that sense,this study suggests the needs to formulate and deliver basic knowledge and skills necessary to groom the planners and policymakers with abilities to improve the planning and designing parts,that will make the town more prosper and harness strong URL with other local towns and cities periphery.
