The departure floor curbside of airport terminal building is the main place for vehicles to unload departure passengers.It is one of the key parts of the entire airport landside transportation system and often gets congested.The capacity of the departure floor curbside is a key parameter for effective traffic organization and management at departure floor curbside.Many studies have shed a light in this area;however,due to the complexity of the departure floor curbside,further studies are needed to improve the accuracy of capacity estimation thus to provide support for effective traffic organization and management at departure floor curbside.The cellular automata is adopted to establish a model to estimate the capacity of the departure floor curbside.In this study,a comprehensive review on existing studies of curbside capacity analysis is first been conducted.Then,the factors influencing curbside capacity and the characteristics of vehicle behavior at curbside are analyzed.Next,based on cellular automata,the rules of vehicles’ accelerating,decelerating,stopping,lane-changing,and one/multiple time(s)decision-making for on parking are established.Using the MATLAB software,simulation models are developed for two-lane and three-lane curbside.Finally,the departure floor curbside of Kunming Changshui International Airport is used as a case study to demonstrate the proposed simulation method in this study and suggestions are developed to improve the capacity of departure floor curbside.The study results show that the developed simulation models of two-lane and three-lane curbside can well simulate the characteristics of traffic flow at departure flow curbside,including car-following,lane-changing,and curbside parking,and can reflect the influence of driving speed,parking length,parking attractiveness,and pedestrian on the curbside capacity.Therefore,the developed simulation models can be well used to conduct capacity estimation for airport departure floor curbside.
