Research on the H-shaped column connections to the H-shape beam in the strong axis has remained rather limited,and the traditional strong axis connection exists many problems.In previous research,beams were all universal beam sections,which means beams were H-shapes with narrow flange.But sometimes,an I-shape beam with the narrow flange does not meet the design requirements;using the medium flange I-shape beam instead of it is a good choice.However,there are seldom reports on this type of beam-column connection.In order to further explore the mechanical properties under cyclic loading,the study carried on the ABAQUS finite element simulation of frame joints with mid-flange and wide-flange H-shape beam under cyclic loading.This paper studied the hysteretic behavior of RBS joint with strengthen-joint-region.The works have been completed as follows:·The M-θcurve,rotational stiffness,bearing capacity,rotational ductility,and plastic rotation capacity of RBS and BASE specimens were studied.Simultaneously,according to Eurocode EC3,they were classified on joint stiffness.·Varying parameter analysis was done.The variable parameters included weakening parameters(a,b,and c)of beam flange.·The RBS specimen shortages were improved.The main conclusions as follows:a.The rotational stiffness and bearing capacity of the RBS joints were lower than that of the BASE joints,which are joints with normal beam end,without any weaken or strengthened. That indicates that the weakening of the beam flange reduces joints’stiffness and bearing capacity to a certain extent.b.RBS joints had a better energy dissipation and plastic rotation capacity.The plastic rotation capacity of RBS specimens was greater than 0.05rad,while that of the BASE specimens was greater than 0.04rad.The maximum plastic rotation capacity of the two kinds of connection specimens is more than 0.03 rad specified by FEMA-267.That indicates that the RBS beam-column connection has good rotation deformation capacity and seismic energy dissipation capacity.c.Based on the analysis of variable weaken parameters a,b,and c,and considering the bearing capacity,plastic rotational capacity,rotational ductility,and the location of the plastic hinge, the paper suggested that the value of parameter a is between 0.5b_fand 0.75b_f,the value of parameter b is between 0.65h_b and 0.85h_b,and the value of parameter c is between 0.2b_f and0.25b_f.That means the design parameter of RBS connection with mid-flange and wide-flange H-shape beam is the same as the traditional RBS connection with a narrow flange H-shape beam.
