As one of the important contents of urban public services,the public market provides a variety of fresh food with low price.At the same time,as a public space,the public market accommodates the rich and diverse urban life.People of different ages and different backgrounds gather in the public market.The market is an important place for people’s daily life and social interaction.This article aims to explore the method of renewal and transformation of the vegetable market in Wuchang District as a public space based on the perspective of urban publicity.Firstly,the paper conducted a basic research on the vegetable market in Wuchang District through field research,and classified the research from the scale,the nature of market operation,time and space types,and discussed the spatial relationship between the public market and the city from the location,accessibility of the public market and the relationship between the public market and urban vitality.In terms of spatial type,the number of concentrated market is the largest,followed by linear market,and the number of combined market is the least.The number of affiliated and independent public markets is the largest,followed by street public markets.The largest number of public markets are located in or near residential areas.Most of the public markets are the vitality points of the city.The public markets themselves and the urban functions derived from their surrounding areas have strong cohesion and vitality,and have a great impact on the surrounding urban space,both positive and negative.In the classification study,five Wuchang district vegetable markets were selected as typical case studies-Deshengqiao Open-air Vegetable Market,Wuche Stadium Flea Market,The Open-air Market Behind the Insurgent Gate,Wutaizha Vegetable Market and Dacheng Fresh market.Based on the perspective of urban publicity,through field investigation,questionnaire survey and Mapping graphical way,and from the surrounding and the traffic,the function and the analysis of the formats,consumers,and four aspects of wuchang district of public activity space node market has carried on the detailed research and analysis of typical cases and wuchang district were summarized and the present situation of the market characteristics and problems.The paper also adopted a comparative analysis method,selected four excellent foreign vegetable market cases from Project for Public Spaces(PPS),and carried out the analysis from the four aspects of surrounding and traffic analysis,function and format analysis,space nodes,public activities and consumer groups.Detailed research,summarized its characteristics and urban public characteristics,and summed up the publicity strategy of improving the public market as a public space.Finally,combined with the research on the status quo of the public market in Wuchang District,summarized the suggestions for the upgrading and construction of the public market in Wuchang District.
