Design Strategy Of Urban Public Space Micro-regeneration Triggered By Cultural Events

With the economic and social development entering the new normal,Chinese cities have entered a new pattern of parallel development of incremental and stock space.In the stage of urban transformation,it is an inevitable trend of urban development to activate the inefficient use of urban public space to create new use value,so micro-regeneration comes into existence.In addition,cultural industry also plays an increasingly important role in the process of urban development.Local governments try to plan and use cultural events as an important urban marketing means to improve the image of the city and drive economic development at the same time.There is no inevitable connection between cultural events and micro-regeneration,but as the focus of current urban development,many cultural events are closely linked to urban public space,and have achieved certain results through practice.Therefore,the micro-regeneration triggered by cultural events is worth thinking and studying in depth to provides new ideas for the transformation and development of urban public space.Although there has been considerable theoretical accumulation in the study of urban micro-regeneration,most of them focus on mechanism dimension,and there is a lack of systematic summary and strategy research on this special kind of micro-regeneration triggered by cultural events.This paper classifies the urban public space involved in this kind of renewal,studies the connection between cultural events and urban micro-regeneration,analyses practice cases in Shanghai,and tries to summarize the characteristics of space renewal triggered by cultural events and the design strategies of different types of urban public space renewal from the design dimension.The first part is the top three chapters of the paper,which focus on the systematic discussion and theoretical study.Firstly,it introduces the types,characteristics and current situation of cultural events.And the background and some practices of urban micro-regeneration are also included.Secondly,it studies the relationship between the two,including the positive and negative effects of cultural events on micro-regeneration.Then,the types of urban public space are divided into routine and non-routine based on the relationship between events and space types.Finally,four kinds of micro-regeneration modes are summarized based on the relationship between events and space location,which lays a theoretical foundation for the case study.The second part is the fourth and fifth chapters of the paper,which studies the typical cases of practice in Shanghai.The projects of the Urban Design Festival are grouped into three types: micro-device design,building micro-renovation and site micro-regeneration.This kind of urban micro-regeneration has the characteristics of extensive participation and rapid construction,and realizes the remodeling and activation of the public space of streets and communities.Shanghai Urban Space Art Season takes the buildings and sites in the riverside area as the main exhibition venue,and completes the reconstruction and reappearance of industrial relics,including the 80,000-ton silo of Minsheng Wharf,Maoma warehouse and open space of Yangpu Waterfront,which makes this area truly return the river to the people.The third part is the last chapter of the paper,which draws the conclusion through the analysis and summary of the previous paper.The renewal process of urban public space triggered by cultural events is actually a continuous phased process from event initiation to space transformation.It gradually changes the image cognition,the use of space and the emotional identity of urban public space in the process of micro-regeneration.And such type of renewal has experimental,flexible,participatory and gradual characteristics.In the process of design and construction,the role and responsibility of architects expand new connotation,and there are different design principles and renewal strategies for different types of urban public space.Triggered by cultural events,the design strategies for routine urban public space micro-regeneration are participatory design,prefabricated construction and renewable modules.The design strategies for non-routine urban public space micro-regeneration are to retain historical authenticity,shape openness of space,enrich experience of path and construct emotional metaphor.
