Study On Stability Of Enhanced Coptis Detoxification Powder And Its Clinical Effect On Sows Constipation

Research purposeConstipation of nursing sows is a common problem in large-scale pig farming,which often results in insufficient eating and lactation of sows,lower production performance of piglet,and bigger economic losses to the pig industry.Enhanced Coptis Detoxification Powder(ECDP)is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription consisting of five kinds Chinese medicines: rhubarb,Rhizoma coptidis,Cortex phellodendri,Radix scutellariae and Fructus gardeniae,which has the effects of clearing away heat,detoxifying and promoting defecation.In order to study the stability of ECDP and its therapeutic effect on constipation of nursing sows,a stability test and a clinical treatment test were conducted to provide a test basis for the development and application of ECDP.Research methods and results1.Stability test of ECDPIn the stress tests(including high temperature test,strong light irradiation test and high humidity test),accelerated test and long-term test,the sensory properties,appear-ance uniformity,angle of repose and bulk density of ECDP were evaluated and determined respectively,while high efficiency liquid chromatography(HPLC)was used to quantitatively analyze the two main active components of ECDP,geniposide and berberine.The results showed that,there were no significant difference in color,taste and odor,appearance uniformity,weight,angle of repose and bulk density of ECDP before and after the intensive test,accelerated test and long-term test,while the contents of geniposide and berberine had no significant change.2.Therapeutic effect test on constipation of nursing sowFifty Landrace × Yorkshire nursing sows with constipation(2nd-6th born)were randomly divided into 5 groups,10 sows in each group.GroupsⅠwas the control group,in which the sows were fed with basic diet;group Ⅱwas drug control group,fed with basic diet added with 0.2% of microecological preparation;while group Ⅲ,Ⅳand Ⅴwere the low,mediate and high dose trial groups,fed with basic diet added with 0.1%,0.2% and 0.4%of ECDP respectively.The pre-test period was 3 days,then the test period was 10 days.Defecation and fecal status of the sows were observed at the same time every morning before feeding during the whole period,and the quantitative scores of constipation were recorded.The results showed that the cure rates of constipation in each group were 0%,20%,40%,50% and 80%,respectively.Conclusion1.ECDP had a good stability in the intensified test,accelerated test and long-term test.2.ECDP had a significant therapeutic effect on sow constipation,better than microecological preparation.
