| While my country is undergoing economic transformation,it is also undergoing social transformation brought about by an aging population.In the context of my country’s delayed retirement plan to respond,health level has become a prerequisite for the smooth implementation of the system.As an important means for the formation and promotion of human capital,whether education can help improve the health of the elderly is the focus of this article.First of all,on the basis of collating the existing literature review,this article uses the relevant data of the China Health and Senior Care Tracking Survey(CHARLS)database to statistically describe the core variables.The results found that the mean values of self-care ability and self-evaluated health status indicators for appliance sex both show an increasing trend with the improvement of the level of education.The scores of the mobile depression self-scale The mean value shows a decreasing trend with the improvement of the level of education;at the same time,The health literacy and economic status also improve with the improvement of their education level.It preliminarily shows that the level of education may affect the health by affecting the lifestyle and socio-economic status.Secondly,this paper uses a binary discrete model to perform a benchmark regression around the impact of education level on the health of the elderly.The regression results showed that the improvement of education level can improve the physical and mental health.the heterogeneity test shows that the improvement effect of education on the health is not significantly different in gender and birth cohort heterogeneity,but in urban and rural areas There is significant heterogeneity.For example,education has a significant effect on improving depression and self-rated health of urban elderly people,while its effect on rural elderly people is almost zero.Thirdly,this article further investigates the mechanism of the effect of education level on the health,and finds that different levels of education will lead to differences in the intermediary variables of lifestyle and socioeconomic status,which will have a significant impact on the health.On one hand,the elderly with higher education level will engage in more social activities,pay more attention to the regularity of work and rest and reduce the probability of smoking,thereby reducing the incidence of related diseases;on the other hand,people with higher levels of education are often matched with better jobs,higher incomes and social welfare,so that high-level educators have better resources to meet their life needs,and may make more efficient health investments and control more health resources.Finally,this article puts forward corresponding policy recommendations from the perspectives of the elderly individuals and the government in terms of education investment and health intervention. |
