Objective:The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of fixed partial dentures supported by narrow-diameter implants in posterior jaws over 10-year follow-upMaterials and Methods:Between August 2002 and April 2008,98 narrow-diameter(3.3mm)implants(NDI)(Straumann AG,Basel,Switzerland)were inserted in 67 edentulous patients, with a mean follow-up time of 121.7 months. At both baseline and follow-up,clinical and radiographic measurements were conducted. The outcome parameters were mainly described as implant survival rate and peri-implant marginal bone loss(MBL).Biological and hardware complications were also evaluated.Chi-squared test was applied to assess the influence of restoration types and implant location on implant survival and hardware complications.Wilcoxon signed-ranks test were applied to assess the influence of restoration types and implant location on marginal bone loss The level of significance was set at α=0.05Results:At follow-up,NDI survival rate was 96.9% at implant level and 97.0% at patient level.Mean marginal bone loss at mesial and distal were 1.16mm(SD:1.10)and 1.21mm(SD:1.09),respectively.Mean probing depth was 3.67mm.Veneer chipping rate was 18.4%.Incidence rate of peri-implant disease was 8.5%.In this study,no implant or abutment fracture was observedConclusion:With the limitation of this study,NDI supported fixed restoration turned out to be a reliable treatment in posterior areas.
