| Since the recovery of life insurance in 1981,commercial health insurance has developed rapidly with China’s economy.The number of market operators has gradually increased and the market size has gradually increased.Since the establishment of professional health insurance companies in 2005,commercial health insurance has shifted from being exclusively operated by life insurance companies to being operated by multiple parties including life insurance,property insurance,and professional health insurance companies.The premium income increased from 31.23 billion yuan in 2005 to 544.13 billion yuan in 2018,an increase of 1644.52%,with an average annual growth of 117.47%,which has made certain achievements.With the aging of the population,the advancement of medical technology,and changes in the disease spectrum,medical expenses in China have risen rapidly,while the importance of commercial health insurance in the financing structure of medical expenses has increased.Therefore,this paper studies the improvement of the health status of residents in China,the difference in the protection effect for heterogeneous populations,and the mechanism through which this protection effect is exerted to provide new thinking for the development of China’s commercial health insurance city.Based on this,referring to the research of relevant scholars,this article first analyzes the current situation of China’s commercial health insurance from six aspects,including scale,insurance density,insurance depth,medical and health expenditure ratio,market management structure,and regional structure.Problems encountered in the current development of health insurance.Empirical use of a tracking survey database-China Health and Nutrition Survey(CHNS)2000-2015 panel data established by the University of North Carolina Population Center and the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,using body mass index and "self-assessed health" indicators to measure samples the objective and subjective health of the population,a panel logit model of discrete regression,using instrumental variables to deal with endogenous problems,examining the impact of commercial health insurance on the health status of residents in China,and replacing health measurement indicators and removing samples with prominent features to test its stability,and analyze heterogeneity of different feature groups,and analyze the mechanism of the impact.Studies have shown that commercial health insurance has significant health performance.After adding instrumental variables,the body mass index improved by 21.6%,and the “self-assessed health” indicator improved by 7.6%.The improvement effect was increased by 35% and 35.7% compared with those without instrumental variables.After changing health variables and excluding economically developed municipalities,the results remain solid.Its health improvement effect is more significant for young people aged 18-44 and low-income groups.This impact is mainly played through ways to promote residents’ healthy behavior and improve the utilization of medical services.Based on the conclusions of this study,this article puts forward suggestions for the development of commercial health insurance from two aspects: the development of the commercial health insurance industry,government policies and regulatory measures. |
