ObjectiveTo observe the curative effect of acupuncture combined with tub bathing on chronic pelvic inflammatory disease as well as the improvement of acupuncture and tub bathing on symptoms and local signs of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, and to explore its synergistic effect of acupuncture plus tub bathing based on western medicine treatment on the improvement of their clinical symptoms in patients with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease,so as to provide an effective complementary therapy to chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.MethodsThis study is a randomized controlled prospective clinical study.Patients with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease whose syndrome differentiation belonged to dampness-heat stasis type were selected as the study subjects, and the cases meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into treatment group(n=30)and control group(n=30).On the basis of western medicine treatment, the treatment group also received acupuncture combined with tub bathing, while the control group was treated with only western medicine. The whole treatment procedure continued for 14 days(7 days per course,2 courses).Comprehensive symptoms,TCM syndrome integral, local symptoms integral,Mcgill pain questionnaire,SF-36 questionnaire, vaginal cleanness, pelvic cavity accumulates fluid or inflammatory mass and safety were evaluated before and after the treatment.Statistical treatment was performed to analyze and compare the results of the two groups.Results1.At the beginning of the experiment, there was no significant difference in the basic data(age composition, length of disease course, grade of disease, etc.)between the treatment group and the control group(P>0.05).The baseline was consistent and comparable.2.After intervention, the comprehensive symptoms and the effective rate of the two groups were statistically significant before and after treatment(P<0.05),and the comparison between the treatment group and the control group was significantly different(P<0.05).3.After intervention, the TCM syndrome integral and the effective rate of the two groups showed significant difference before and after treatment(P<0.05),and the comparison between the treatment group and the control group showed significant difference(P<0.05).4.After intervention, the local symptoms integral in both groups were improved after treatment(P<0.05),while the effective rate showed non-significant difference between two groups(P>0.05).5.After intervention, the Mcgill pain questionnaire and the SF-36 questionnaire scores in the two groups were significantly different before and after treatment(P<0.05),and the comparison between the treatment group and the control group was significantly different(P<0.05).6.After intervention, the vaginal cleanness in the two groups were significantly different before and after treatment(P<0.05),and the comparison between the treatment group and the control group was significantly different(P<0.05).7.After intervention, the pelvic cavity accumulates fluid showed non-significant difference between two groups before and after treatment(P>0.05),while the inflammatory mass in the two groups was significantly different before and after treatment(P<0.05).ConclusionAcupuncture combined with tub bathing can improve the comprehensive curative effect of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease patients,by improving the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome, local signs and clinical symptoms on the basis of only western medicine treatment. What’s more, this comprehensive therapy can improve patients’ quality of life while not increasing side effects. Therefore, acupuncture plus tub bathing is a safe and feasible method for treating chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, which has a great value in clinical use.
