The Distribution Of Corneal Thickness In Young Adults In Xinjiang In Han And Uygur Population

Objective: To study the corneal thickness(CT)of healthy young people of Uygur and Han ethnic groups in Xinjiang,and analyze the factors affecting corneal thickness.Methods:This study was conducted on 6,654 healthy eyes from subjects who came to the hospital for anterior segment examination from October 2013 to January2019.The Pentacam anterior segment analyzer was used to measure central corneal thickness,corneal vertex thickness,the thinnest corneal thickness,corneal thickness spatial profile,and percentage of corneal thickness increase.The measurement process is completed by the same technician.The age of the subjects was 18-45 years old,including880 Uygur eyes,5774 Han eyes,2356 eyes of males,4298 eyes of females,3384 cases of right eyes,and 3270 cases of left eyes.According to the different nationalities,the subjects were divided into two groups: Han and Uygur.SPSS20.0 statistical software was used for analysis to evaluate the relationship between the two groups of corneal thickness and gender,eye group and age.Results: Central corneal thickness(CCT),corneal vertex thickness(CVT),and thinnest corneal thicknesses(TCT)were different in eyes from Han and Uygur.The mean CVT were 532.03±30.514μm in Uygur young adults,537.17±31.39μm in Han young adults(P<0.001),The mean CCT were531.59±30.568μm in Uygur young adults,537.52±31.458μm in Han young adults(P<0.001).The mean TCT were 527.96±30.721μm in Uygur young adults,532.95±31.567μm in Han young adults(P<0.001).The CVT,CCT and TCT between male and female were significant different in Uygur young adults(P<0.05)and Han young adults(P<0.001).The CVT,CCT and TCT between right eye and left eye were significantly different in Han young adults(P<0.001),while no significant difference in Uygur young adults.The CVT,CCT and TCT between 18-25 years and 26-44 years were significantly different in Han young adults(P<0.001),while no significant difference in Uygur young adults.The comparison of cornea thickness spatial profile(CTSP)in Eyes From Han and Uygur were significantly different in all diameters(P<0.001).The comparison of percentage of cornea thickness increase(PTI)in eyes from Han and Uygur were significantly different in 4,6,8,10 mm diameters(P<0.001).Conclusion: Corneal thickness differs among eyes from different ethnicity.Corneal thickness are influenced by ethnicity,gender,age and eye laterality.Design of refractive surgery and diagnosis of related diseases in patients of a certain area should be based on reference values from its own population.
