ObjectiveTo observe whether the previous pulsed radiofrequency treatment history in patients with postherpetic neuralgia affects the clinical efficacy of temporary spinal cord stimulation, and meanwhile to observe the effect of temporary spinal cord stimulation on the mental state and quality of life in the patients.Subjects and MethodsFrom June 2019 to August 2020,127 patients with postherpetic neuralgia who underwent temporary spinal cord stimulation in the Pain Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were selected, regardless of gender.According to whether there had been pulsed radiofrequency treatment previously, they were divided into experimental group(group E)and control group(group C).The Numerical rating scale(NRS),Hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS)and Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)were recorded preoperatively(T0)and 7 days(T1),1 month(T2),3 months(T3),and 6 months(T4)postoperatively.Intraoperative and postoperative complications, patients’ satisfaction at 3 months postoperatively, and the number of patients taking medication at 6 months postoperatively were recorded. All date were analyzed by SPSS 21.0.P<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.ResultsA total of 91 patients completed the study, including 38 cases in group E and 53 cases in group C.There was no significant difference in general information between the two groups(P>0.05).Compared with T0,the NRS,HADS and PSQI scores significantly decreased at T1~T4,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).But there were no significant differences in NRS,HADS and PSQI between the two groups at each same time points from T1 to T4(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in intraoperative and postoperative complications, patient satisfaction at 3 months postoperatively, surgical efficiency and the number of patients taking medication at 6 months postoperatively(P>0.05).Conclusion1.The history of pulsed radiofrequency treatment in postherpetic neuralgia patients does not affect the clinical efficacy of temporary spinal cord stimulation.2.Temporary spinal cord stimulation can significantly relieve the pain of patients with recurrent postherpetic neuralgia after pulsed radiofrequency, meanwhile it can also significantly improve the patients’ anxiety, depression and sleep quality.
