| Background: Blepharoplasty is one of the most common operations in plastic surgery. There are many types of blepharoplasty. The best known is traditional blepharoplasty. In 1999,Jung I.Park proposed the orbicularis-levator fixation technique(referred to as Park blepharoplasty)which became popular. In 2013,a research was published by Jesusito S.Zubiri who proposed the orbicularis-levator-tarsus fixation technique in blepharoplasty(referred to as modified Park blepharoplasty).Modified Park blepharoplasty is similar to Park blepharoplasty, however there is a lack of research comparing their clinical effects. Objective: To explore the effectiveness of Park blepharoplasty and modified Park blepharoplasty to provide a basis for surgical selection.Clinical information and methods: Sixty patients who undergo incision blepharoplasty at the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University between October 2019 and August 2020 were selected and then randomly divided into an experimental group(30 cases)and a control group(30 cases)receiving modified Park blepharoplasty and Park blepharoplasty respectively. All surgeries were operated by a same doctor. The patients needed to be reviewed at 7 days,1 month,3 months and 6months after surgery.A doctor measured and recorded the general information of the patient’s eyes, the width of the double eyelid line, the muscle strength of the levator before and after the operation, the incidence of complications and the satisfaction of the patients. The data is analysed by SPSS 26.0.When P<0.05,the difference is statistically significant. The experiment is single blind. The researcher(the doctor who performed the operations)knew how the patients were allocated;the patients did not.All patients are female. There is no significant difference(P<0.05)between the average age of the experimental group(23.43±3.51 years)and the average age of the control group(24.15±3.59 years).Results:1.There are no significant differences in age, upper eyelid skin laxity, palpebral fissure transverse diameter and levator muscle strength between thetwo groups before and after surgery.2.The swelling scores of the two groups shows a downward trend with thefollow-up time. The difference is not statistically significant.3.The difference in operation time between the two groups is statisticallysignificant(P<0.05).The operation time of the experimental group has anaverage of 10 minutes longer than that of the control group.4.There is no statistically significant difference in the width’s change of thedouble eyelid immediately after surgery,at 7 days or at 3 months. There is astatistically significant difference in the width’s change of the double eyelid at 6months after surgery(P<0.05).The width of the double eyelid in theexperimental group changes to a lesser extent than that in the control group.5.The post-operation follow-up at 6 months indicate that the incidence ofthe double eyelid line disappearance or narrowing is different between the twogroups. It is statistically significant(P<0.05).6.The satisfaction level of the two groups is different, which is statisticallysignificant(P<0.05).The satisfaction score of the experimental group is higher.Conclusions:1.Modified Park blepharoplasty has the advantages of a light swelling afterthe operation,no closed eye’s scars and improvement with muscle strength, which is the same as the advantages of the Park blepharoplasty.2.The long-term effect of modified Park blepharoplasty is definite.Thedouble eyelid line width changes little and the incidence of folds disappearanceor narrowing is lower than for Park blepharoplasty procedures.3.The satisfaction of patients in the modified Park blepharoplasty group ishigher than that in the Park blepharoplasty group. |
