Association Between Suicide Risks And Serum S100B Protein In Depressed Patients

Abstract/Summary:
Objective: To explore the correlation between the risk of suicide and changes in serum S100 B protein levels in patients with depression.Methods: A total of 262 subjects were included in this study.And we collected the general information of hospitalized patients,admission status,medical history(age of first onset,total duration of disease,duration of this disease course,number of hospitalizations,number of depressive episodes,number of suicide attempts,medication before admission,family history),previous physical disease history and allergic history.The assessment of clinical scale include: Hamilton Depression Scale,Hamilton Anxiety Scale,the suicide scale of the MINI-International Neuropsychiatric Interview.According to the suicide scale of the MINI-International Neuropsychiatric Interview rating scale divided into high,medium and low risk of suicide.Serum S100 B protein levels of all inpatients were measured and analyzed.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS24.0.In this study,we compared and analyzed the clinical features and the correlation between serum S100 B protein levels and total score of HAMD,HAMA and MINI suicide scale in different suicide risk groups of depression patients.Results: In this study,105 patients were enrolled in the low-risk group,79 in the medium-risk group,and 78 in the high-risk group.The age of the high suicide risk group was lower than the low and medium risk groups,and the education level of the high suicide risk group was mainly higher than college education level.There were statistically significant differences in gender,age and educational level among the three groups(P < 0.05).The severity of depression and anxiety in the low and moderate suicide risk groups were significantly lower than those in the high suicide risk group.There were statistically significant differences among the three groups in age at first onset,number of previous suicide attempts,sleep disorder factor,total score of MINI suicide scale,total score of HAMD and total score of HAMA(P < 0.05).Serum S100 B protein levels in low and moderate suicide risk groups were significantly lower than those in high suicide risk groups.In the low-risk group,S100 B protein levels were positively associated with the total score of MINI suicide scale and the number of previous suicide attempts,and the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05).Conclusion: When the risk of suicide was low,serum S100 B protein was positively correlated with the risk of suicide and the number of previous suicide attempts.When the risk of suicide was elevated,the protein was not significantly associated with the risk of suicide.The association between S100 B protein and the risk of suicide in depression still needs to be studied with larger sample size.
