The phenomenon that more and more students taking psychoactive substances to improve their cognitive ability so as to achieve better academic performance has attracted wide attention from all walks of life.However,most of these medications are central nervous system stimulants and are likely to affect the brain and may come with a range of side effects.In China,Atomoxetine hydrochloride,used to treat Attention deficit and Hyperactivity disorder(ADHD),is one of the medications that can improve concentration and cognitive ability.It’s a non-central nervous system stimulant and almost has no addiction potential,but it is unknown whether the abuse of this medication of healthy people without ADHD has an impact on human body.In addition,people with ADHD tend to have symptoms that persist into adulthood,does long-term use of Atomoxetine hydrochloride affect longevity?In this study,the Drosophila melanogaster wild-type Canton-S was used as a model organism to investigate the effect of Atomoxetine hydrochloride on lifespan,food intake,spawning,activity,climbing ability and anti-stress ability.To explore the effects of Atomoxetine hydrochloride on lifespan regulation and healthspan of Drosophila melanogaster.Results showed that in the general food medium,Atomoxetine hydrochloride shortened the lifespan of male and female flies,increased their spontaneous activity,and weakened the anti-thermal stimulation ability of male flies but enhanced male anti-hydrogen peroxide ability.In high concentrations of yeast food medium,Atomoxetine hydrochloride extended the lifespan of female flies,with sex-specific,enhanced their thermal stimulation resistance and vertical climbing ability,increased the intake of male and female flies,and increased the total night sleep time both of males and females,but caused males daytime sleepiness and reduced the spontaneous activity both of males and females.The results of the experiment can provide reference for Atomoxetine hydrochloride as a potential drug for the treatment of ADHD,concentration improvement and as an anti-aging substance.
