| Objective:To investigate the current situation of death coping ability of nurses in oncology department; To explore the effects of the general demographic data, death attitude and mental resilience of oncology nurses on their ability to cope with death. To analyze the main factors affecting the coping ability of nurses in oncology department to provide theoretical basis for improving the coping ability of nurses in oncology department. Methods:Using convenience sampling method, oncology nurses from 3 Grade A hospitals in Jiangxi Province were selected from August to November,2020.A total of 355 oncology nurses were investigated by using self-made general demographic questionnaire and the revised mortality coping ability scale, death attitude description scale and mental resilience scale.SPSS22.0 software was used for statistical analysis. The main statistical methods include descriptive analysis, two independent samples t test,one-way analysis of variance,Pearson correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis,etc.Results:1.The total score of death coping ability of oncology nurses was(128.23±21.31)points,and all items were(4.27±1.49)points.Among them,13.8% of nurses had insufficient ability to deal with death, and 10.4% of nurses had strong ability to deal with death. The scoring rate of each dimension item from high to low is: The ability to think and express about death(72.15%),to examine life(69.66%),to deal with dying(65.42%),to talk about one’s own death(58.86%),to deal with funeral(57.78%),to accept death(53.49%),to deal with loss(52.11%),and to talk about the death of others(50.95%).2.The t-test and ANOVA results of two independent samples show that Oncology nurses’ coping capacity of death at age, religion, department, job title, working years, where care experience, home and topic to talk about death, between colleagues discuss or share death related experiences and feelings,in the past 1 year experience of bereavement, accept death education related training statistically differences(P < 0.05).3.The results of correlation analysis showed that the scores of fear of death, avoidance of death and acceptance of escape were negatively correlated with the total score of coping ability to death(P < 0.05),and the scores of natural acceptance, mental resilience and other dimensions were positively correlated with the total score of coping ability to death(P < 0.01).4.The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the number of nursing patients who died in the last three months, family discussion of death topics, bereavement experience in the past year, receiving death education related training and death avoidance were the main influencing factors of nurses’ ability to cope with death. The number of patients who died after nursing care in the last three months, death avoidance and natural acceptance were the main influencing factors of death acceptance ability.Natural acceptance, escape acceptance and total scores of resilience were the main influencing factors of NDE.Working years, natural acceptance and escape acceptance were the main factors affecting the ability to express thinking about death.Religious belief, the number of patients who had cared for the deceased in the last three months, family discussion of death topics, bereavement experience in the past year, receiving death education related training and perseverance were the main factors affecting the ability to deal with burial.Family discussion of death topics, the status of receiving death education and related training, the total scores of resilience and mental resilience were the main factors affecting the ability to examine life. The number of patients who had died in the last three months, bereavement experience in the past year and fear of death were the main influencing factors of the ability to deal with loss.Bereavement and death avoidance in the past 1 year were the main influencing factors of the ability to talk about the death of others.Death avoidance and natural acceptance were the main factors influencing the ability to talk about one’s own mortality.Conclusion:1.The ability of oncology nurses to cope with death is at a moderate and low level;2.Nurse experience in oncology department, family discussion of death topics, bereavement experience in the past year, death education related training and death avoidance were the main influencing factors of death coping ability;3.Fear of death, escape from death and acceptance of escape were negatively correlated with the total score of coping ability of oncology nurses, while natural acceptance was positively correlated with the total score of coping ability;4.The mental resilience of oncology nurses is positively correlated with the ability to cope with death. |
