Objective:Patient Privacy Scale(PPS)was adapted to nursing students,and its reliability and validity were evaluated.To understand the cognition and behavior of nursing students to protect patients ’ privacy and analyze its influencing factors.Methods:After obtaining the authorization of the author of the original scale,the scale was sinicized and inquired by experts,and 130 nursing students from three medical colleges in Shanxi Province were tested by convenient sampling method to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scale.After that,890 nursing interns in six affiliated hospitals of Shanxi Medical University were investigated by convenience sampling.Results:1.localization and revision of the scale:Contact the author of the original scale by email and get his consent.A translation team composed of the author himself,two graduate students majoring in English and two nursing professors with rich translation experience translated the original scale and made it Chinese.After comprehensive comments,the patient privacy scale was revised into the Chinese version of the patient privacy scale(first draft)including the eleventh item,adding "for example,do not allow others to take photos on the medical record book/office system at will,and quit the office system in time";Article 8 "servants" is changed to "nurses";In clause 13,"colleagues" is changed to "other medical personnel".A total of three rounds of expert correspondence were conducted,and the assignment values of 16 experts to each dimension and each item of the scale were sorted out and counted.It was found that there was only one item with the mean value of importance < 3.5 and the mean value of coefficient of variation > 0.25,and two experts said that the accompanying care should be considered from the severity of the illness,so the item "When multiple patients are admitted to the same ward,you allow patients to have accompanying care" was deleted.In addition,according to the revision opinions of experts,the 9 th and 10 th items will be placed from the original personal information and life privacy to the gender privacy and management system;In the fifth entry,add the precondition "according to the patient’s consciousness";Merge one item in the original personal information and life privacy with the fourth item in the physical privacy,"You will take necessary measures to protect the patient’s physical privacy even in emergency treatment".Experts’ repair of sentences: the full text "information" is unified into "information";"Patient" is unified as "patient";Try to be concise.The positive coefficient(> 0.9),authority coefficient(0.817,0.853,0.885)and coordination coefficient(0.348,0.360,0.415)of experts are all good,which shows that the inquiry process of experts in this subject is rigorous,scientific and reasonable.Finally,an initial scale of 25 items in five dimensions,Patient Privacy Protection Scale(intern nursing student version),was formed.2.Verification of reliability and validity of the scale:The reliability and validity of the scale were tested by analyzing the pre-survey results of 130 nursing students.The results of reliability analysis showed that Cronbach’sα coefficient was 0.967,and the Cronbach’s α coefficient of the five dimensions of the scale was within the range of 0.891–0.974.The split-half reliability was 0.910,and the test-retest reliability was 0.868.Results of correlation/discrimination analysis: The correlation coefficient between each item and the total score was 0.763–0.917,and the correlation coefficient between each item was 0.479–0.760.Results of content validity analysis: I-CVI of each item ranged from 0.83 to 1.00,and S-CVI of the total quantity table was 0.961.Results of structural validity analysis: The exploratory factor analysis was used to calculate the structural validity.The KMO value was 0.928,the χ2 value of Bartlett ’s spherical test was 4148.928(P <0.001),the factor load coefficient was0.577–0.866,and the interpretation rate of cumulative variance was 84.464%.3.Investigation on the cognition and behavior of nursing students’ privacy protection and its influencing factors:Through statistical analysis of the survey data of 890 nursing students in six hospitals in Shanxi Province,the cognitive scores of nursing students on patient privacy protection are 116.45 12.84,and the behavioral scores are 110.88 13.99.There are 616(69.21%)nursing interns who think that they have done a good job in protecting patients’ privacy.The results of multiple linear regression showed that gender,age,attitude towards nursing,understanding of the current relevant legal system,and whether or not you have observed the experience of patient privacy care will affect the cognitive level of nursing students on patient privacy protection.Attitude towards nursing,whether you have participated in training or learned relevant knowledge,the degree of understanding of the current relevant legal system,and whether you have observed the experience of patient privacy care will affect the behavior of nursing students on patient privacy protection(all P < 0.05).Conclusion:1.Localization and revision of the scale:The patient privacy protection scale(intern nursing student version)has good reliability and validity,and can be used as an evaluation tool for the privacy protection ability of intern nursing students in China to conduct a large-scale investigation in the future;It can also be used to compare the privacy protection ability of nursing students before and after intervention.It has certain theoretical and practical significance.2.Investigation on the cognition and behavior of nursing students’ privacy protection and its influencing factors:Nursing practice students’ ability of protecting patients’ privacy is on the upper-middle level,and the lack of privacy protection is related to the lack of training and learning,the shallow awareness of relevant laws,and the failure of clinical teaching to play a good demonstration role.Therefore,school and hospital nursing administrators should formulate relevant teaching and training,including studying relevant laws and discussing cases,strengthening the education of patient privacy protection in clinical teaching from various angles,and nursing teachers should play a good role in demonstrating,so as to better protect patients’ privacy,improve patients ’ satisfaction and promote the development of their future nursing career.
