Objectives: The purpose of this study is to understand the humanistic care needs of disabled elderly people in nursing homes,and to construct a humanistic care model for disabled elderly people in nursing institutions based on Swanson’s caring theory,and to explore the application effect of this humanistic care model on loneliness,senile depression and quality of life of disabled elderly people in nursing homes.Methods: 1.Through qualitative interviews,semi-structured interviews,field recordings and transcripts were conducted for 20 disabled elderly people in nursing homes,and Colaizzi’s 7-step method was adopted to analyze the humanistic care needs of disabled elderly people in nursing homes.2.The convenience sampling method was adopted to select two medical and nursing nursing homes with the same original care mode in Chongqing,and the two medical and nursing nursing institutions were randomly divided into the intervention group(n=49)and the control group(n=49).The control group received the original humanistic care mode in the nursing institution.The intervention group adopted the humanistic care model of nursing institutions based on Swanson’s care theory,and The University of California at Los Angeles Loneliness Scale,the Geriatric Depression Scale,and The Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Health Survey were used to compare loneliness,depression and quality of life scores of two groups before,3 and 6 months after the intervention.Results: 1.Humanistic care needs of disabled elderly people in nursing homes can be analyzed into the following five themes:(1)Medical care services(daily care,basic medical services,professional psychological counseling);(2)Security guarantee(personal and property safety,network security,privacy protection);(3)Elderly-oriented environment(facility layout,rules and regulations,social care);(4)Social participation(group activities,interpersonal relations,self-regulated learning,volunteer services);(5)Spiritual support(religious belief,dignity maintenance,independent decision-making).2.The between-group effect,time effect and interaction effect of loneliness,depression and quality of life in the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The scores of loneliness in the intervention group 3 and 6 months after intervention were significantly lower than those in the control group,and the scores of depression and quality of life 6 months after intervention were significantly better than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions: The humanistic care needs of disabled elderly in pension homes are diversified and personalized,so it is necessary to provide them with humanistic care and to meet their humanistic care needs.The humanistic care model of disabled elderly in nursing homes based on Swanson’s theory of care can effectively relieve the loneliness and depression of disabled elderly and improve the quality of life,which can provide reference for the humanistic care of nursing homes.
