Background As the prevalence of allergic rhinitis(AR)in our country has been increasing year by year, relevant epidemiological studies have continued to deepen. However,as a city with a high incidence of AR with a large number of patients,Hohhot,Inner Mongolia, currently lacks an overall representative flow research study.Inner Mongolia has a special meteorological environment.Studying the influence of pollen, meteorological characteristics and other related environmental factors on the disease of allergic rhinitis will be of great significance for disease control. Objective To investigate the correlation among the characteristics of patients with allergic rhinitis, airborne pollen distribution, and meteorological factors in the urban area of Hohhot,Inner Mongolia. Methods Analyze the characteristics of 39,239 AR patients in Hohhot,Inner Mongolia from 2017 to 2019,and monitor and collect the number, types and meteorological environmental parameters(average temperature, average air pressure, average wind speed, and maximum Wind speed, average humidity, daily rainfall, aridity index(AI),average air quality index(AQI),and daily primary pollutants)of daily pollen particles during the same period, and analyze the relationship between AR patient visits, pollen and meteorological factors. Results The total number of AR patient visits in 2017-2019 were 11,924,11,352,and 15,963.A comparison of the number of visits in Hohhot for three years showed no statistical difference(P0.05).During the three-year period, the number of AR patients’ visits from March to October was the least in March, and it started to increase in April, and reached its peak in August.Late summer and early autumn have the highest number of consultations.Among the patients, the number of year <6 and > 65 is relatively small, and the number of year 6-15 years is the largest. After the age of 35,the number of visits gradually decreases with age.The number of visits for children <6years old and the elderly 65 years old is relatively small, and the number of visits for patients aged 6 to 15 years is the largest. After the age of 35,the number of visits gradually decreases with age.The proportion of men or women in the 26-35 group is higher than that of other groups. There was no statistical difference in the number of pollen particles and pollen species in the urban area of Hohhot in three years(P>0.05).The pollen of Artemisia genus Compositae is still the absolute dominant airborne pollen in this area. The number of AR patients per day is positively correlated with the city’s daily average temperature, rainfall, daily average humidity,AI and daily pollen quantity(r=0.307,P<0.01;r=0.087,P=0.018;r=0.199,P<0.01;r=0.143,P<0.01;r=0.276,P<0.01);It is negatively correlated with the city’s daily average wind speed, daily maximum wind speed, daily average air pressure and AQI(r=-0.156,P<0.01;r=-0.108,P<0.01;r=-0.080,P=0.03;r=-0.101,P=0.006).The daily pollen quantity in the urban area of Hohhot was positively correlated with daily average temperature and daily AR outpatient visits(r=0.189,P<0.01;r=0.276,P<0.01),and negatively correlated with AI and daily average air pressure(r=-0.140,P<0.01;r=-0.121,P<0.01).Conclusion Patients with AR in Hohhot have obvious age and seasonal rules. There is a correlation between meteorological factors and the number of pollen grains and AR patients’ visits, and they may be important influencing factors.Pollen transmission in urban areas is affected by meteorological factors.Through this study, the current situation of the influence of airborne pollen and environmental meteorological factors on patients with allergic rhinitis has been preliminary understood, which can provide regional research data for the prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis in our region in the future.
