Objective:(1)Explore the applicability of Fear of Compassion Scale in Chinese adolescents, test its reliability and validity, and form the Chinese version of the Adolescent Fear of Compassion Scale.(2)Explore the relationship between fear of self-compassion and non-suicidal self-injury among adolescent, and test the role of self-criticism and meaning in life.Method:(1)By means of questionnaire,873 students in a middle school in Fujian Province were given Fear of Compassion Scale,Compassion Scale and Basic Empathy Scale, and the revised Adolescent Fear of Compassion Scale was verified by exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural validity, criterion related validity, internal consistency reliability and retest reliability.(2)By means of questionnaire,310 students in a middle school in Fujian Province were given Adolescent Self-Compassion Fear Scale,Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Behavior Assessment Questionnaire,Self-Criticism Scale and Meaning in Life Scale.Independent sample t-test,correlation analysis, mediation test and moderation test are used to explore the relationship between the variables and the potential impact mechanism.Results:(1)The revised Chinese version of the Adolescent Fear of Self-Compassion Scale deleted items 2,3,7,10,11,23 and 26 of the original scale, and retained 31 items, including three dimensions: fear of compassion for others, fear of compassion from others and fear of self-compassion.The three dimensions were independent and influenced by each other.(2)The revised Adolescent Fear of Compassion Scale Cronbach α coefficient was 0.926,and the subscales Cronbach α coefficient was between 0.775-0.899;The retest reliability of the total scale was 0.991,and the retest reliability of each subscale was between 0.591-0.853(p<0.01).(3)Exploratory factor analysis showed that it was more appropriate to extract three factors, and confirmatory factor analysis used second-order three-factor model for fitting,RMSEA=0.68,CFI=0.838,TLI=0.826,which met the psychometrics standards. The correlation between the total score of the scale and the fear of compassion for others, the fear of compassion from others and the fear of self-compassion were 0.705,0.882 and 0.912(p <0.01).There was a significant positive correlation between the Fear of Self-Compassion Scale and the Compassion Scale and the Basic Empathy Scale.(4)There was a significant positive correlation between adolescent fear of self-compassion and non-suicidal self-injury,self-criticism and meaning in life,non-suicidal self-injury was significantly positively related to self-criticism,and there is no significant correlation between meaning in life and non-suicidal self-injury and self-criticism.(5)Self-criticism played a complete mediating role between adolescent fear of self-compassion and non-suicidal self-injury,and the mediating effect accounted for 73.37%.The meaning in life had no significant moderating effect between fear of self-compassion and non-suicidal self-injury,and the mediating effect of self-criticism.Conclusion:(1)The revised Adolescent Fear of Compassion Scale has good reliability and validity, and can be used to measure the level of adolescent fear of compassion under the Chinese cultural background.(2)Adolescent fear of self-compassion can directly predict non-suicidal self-injury behavior, and can also indirectly affect non-suicidal self-injury through self-criticism.In the future,we can reduce the incidence of non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors by cultivating adolescents’ self-compassion ability or reducing the level of self-criticism.(3)Non-suicidal self-injury behavior is more of an emotional regulation disorder,in which meaning in life plays an insignificant regulatory role.In the future,non-suicidal self-injury behaviors can be intervened by improving adolescents’ emotional regulation skills.
