Efficacy Of Perospirone Combined With Lithium Carbonate In The Treatment Of Depressive Episodes In Adolescents With Bipolar Disorder

Objective: To explore the efficacy and safety of perospirone combined with lithium carbonate in the treatment of adolescent patients with bipolar depression;Method: A total of 71 adolescent patients treated in Wuhan Mental Health Center from August 2020 to December 2021 were enrolled,meeting the diagnostic criteria for depressive episodes of bipolar disorder,and were randomly divided into the study and control groups.The subjects in the study group（n=36）were treated with perospirone combined with lithium carbonate,while those in the control group（n=35）were treated with lithium carbonate alone.The treatment of both groups lasted for eight weeks.The HAMD-17,CGI-BP-S,TESS,and YMRS were used to evaluate the efficacy and side effects of the two groups at baseline,two,four,and eight weeks after treatment.Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale（Mo CA）and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test（WCST-128）were used to evaluate the cognitive function at baseline and after eights weeks of treatment.Results: A total of 60 patients completed the entire 8-week treatment,six patients dropped out in study group and five patients dropped out in control group.There was no statistically significant difference in the evaluation indexes rated between the two groups at baseline（P>0.05）.The HAMD-17 score of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group after the 2nd,4th,and 8th week of treatment,and the difference between both groups was statistically significant（P<0.05）.At the 4th and 8th week of treatment,the CGI-BP-S score of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group（P<0.05）.Repeated ANOVA showed that time and group factors had significant effects in HAMD-17 and CGI-BP-S（P < 0.05）,and there was interaction between time and group factors in HAMD-17(P < 0.05.The Mo CA scores and some WCST-128 indexes in the study group improved after eight weeks of treatment compared with baseline.（P>0.05）.Conclusion: In the treatment of adolescent patients with bipolar depression,compared with lithium carbonate alone,perospirone combined with lithium carbonate has faster onset,better clinical efficacy,good safety and can improve some cognitive functions of patients.
