The introduction of excellent popular science works from abroad can bring Chinese readers more advanced scientific knowledge,thus the importance of its translation goes without saying.The present thesis gives a brief analysis of the present research on the translation of popular science texts and it illustrates the four features of popular science texts through the Case Study of the Translation of What a Wonderful World: One Man's Attempt to Explain the Big Stuff(Chapters 6-7).Within the framework of the functional equivalence theory of Nida,the author attempts to explore the appropriate translation methods to be applied to the translation practice of popular science texts at the lexical,syntactic and textual level,so as to achieve functional equivalence to the greatest and reach the goal of transmitting scientific knowledge.
