In the information age,content-focused texts are widely used in almost all aspects of our life.As an important means to transmit information,their translations are playing an indispensable role in the current globalization.Proposed by Reiss(2014),Text Typology Theory argues that the type of a text determines its translation strategies.In terms of content-focused texts,this theory contends that the information in the source text should be fully and naturally reproduced in the target text.With the guidance of Text Typology Theory,this report discusses the translation strategies of content-focused texts on the basis of the Chinese-English translation of “Quality Manual for Zhongce Rubber Group Co.,Ltd.”.As a whole,this report consists of six chapters.Chapter One introduces the background of the task,the significance of the task and the layout of the report.Chapter Two presents an overview of the source text and makes a brief analysis of its linguistic features.Chapter Three describes the translation process,which falls into pre-translation preparations,while-translation difficulties and post-translation editings.As the theoretical underpinning,Chapter Four reviews the background and main arguments of Text Typology Theory.Towards its end,it makes an analysis of the applicability of this theory to the translation task.Chapter Five systematically presents the major translation strategies of“Quality Manual for Zhongce Rubber Group Co.,Ltd.” with the guidance of Text Typology Theory.Specifically,the translation strategies on the lexical level are word-class conversion,omission and annotation.The translation strategies on the syntactic level are amplification,combination and voice conversion.The translation strategies on the textual level are restructuring and literal translation.As the conclusion of the report,Chapter Six summarizes the major translation strategies adopted in fulfilling the task,points out the problems encountered and the solutions adopted,and reflects upon the report author’s pains and gains derived from the task. |
