In 1986,the French linguist Dan Sperber and the British linguist Deirdre Wilson proposed the relevance theory.Relevance theory began to be used primarily in the field of linguistics.Later,Ernest-August Gutt proposed in his doctoral thesis that relevance theory can explain translation studies. The research carrier of this thesis,"Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk" is one of Lu Xun’s masterpieces. Each of the essays in it has a large number of culture-loaded words. From the perspective of relevance theory, this thesis makes a study on the translation of the culture-loaded words in Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk, mainly from the three perspectives of the original author, translator and target language reader, analyzing how the communication achieves optimal relevance. When translators encounter some difficulties in untranslatability and unequivalence of culture-loaded words, translators could regard translation as an ostensive-inferential process that explains the meaning of the source language on the basis of relevance theory framework.Translation activities belong to an inferential process of brain mechanism and also a language communication behavior. In chapter four, the author has analyzed ecological culture-loaded words, material culture-loaded words, social culture-loaded words, religious culture-loaded words and linguistic culture-loaded words from the perspective of relevance theory.Through analyzing these words, author find relevance theory has strong explanatory power to translation. At the same time, the author found that relevance theory not taken "faithfulness, expressiveness, elegance" as the main principle of translation.Absolute equivalence between the two languages in translation is also impossible. The significance of relevance theory applied in translation is that it advocates that the meanings of the two languages should be closer in translation. The closer they are,the stronger the relevance, and the deeper the readers’ understanding of the original text.
