Linguistic And Cultural Implications Of China English’s Inclusion In The Oxford English Dictionary

As an inevitable product of Chinese and Western cultures and cross-cultural exchanges,China English has greatly enriched the English vocabulary and spread unique Chinese culture to all parts of the world.At the same time,it is also English with Chinese characteristic that can express Chinese culture.It is a language that has been recognized,accepted and widely used by English-speaking countries.Under the guidance of Memetics and Conceptual Integration Theory,this paper takes China English network buzzwords,which have been selected into the Oxford English Dictionary and internationally recognized as examples to discuss the following four questions:(1)How and why does China English emerge?(2)Why was China English represented by “add oil” selected into The Oxford English Dictionary?(3)Why does China English network buzzwords widespread?(4)What are the social functions of China English? What kind of cultural enlightenment does it bring to us?Through the analysis of related research and theories,the paper firstly analyzes production and dissemination of China English represented by network buzzwords from the perspective of the four stages of memetics and the framework structure of Conceptual Integration Theory,based on studying the differences between China English and Chinglish and the causes of China English.Secondly,from the perspective of the strong memes of the memetics,the paper explores the reasons why network buzzwords of China English represented by "add oil" can be so popular and loved by foreigners.and what cultural enlightenment it brought by this phenomenon.The study finds that based on the analysis of the dissemination of China English,memetics provides better theoretical guidance for language research,innovates methods and ideas for the study of internet language,and enables us to better understand the laws of language development.At the same time,it provides some implications for the study of China English from the perspective of memetics.Moreover,China English a language paradigm,which conforms to the characteristics and needs of the times.It also carries social functions including interaction and expression,and has a certain role inpromoting language communication and cross-cultural communication.
