| | John Ruskin Criticized The Study Of Ideas |  | Posted on:2021-01-21 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis |  | Country:China | Candidate:W Shen | Full Text:PDF |  | GTID:2505306092988279 | Subject:Literature and art |  | Abstract/Summary: |  PDF Full Text Request |  | This paper aims to expound the critical thoughts in John Ruskin’s artistic thoughts,and try to discuss the great effect of Ruskin’s critical thoughts in the field of literature and art from the aspects of ecological view and moral connotation.It is found that Ruskin’s critical thoughts cover a wide range,including the criticism of the great disaster brought by industrial civilization to the ecological environment,as well as the emphasis on the moral utilitarianism of art,which requires art to educate people to pursue a healthy lifestyle and other social critical thoughts.Because Ruskin gradually began to pay attention to the moral utilitarianism in art,he also turned to pay attention to the society and further attacked the ugly phenomena in the society.Ruskin’s research on gothic architecture goes deep into its background,from the description of architecture to the ecological destruction brought by industrial civilization to the criticism of society,and puts forward that the most fundamental concern for ecology lies in the concern for human beings,the emphasis on human nature,and the yearning for harmonious social environment between human beings and nature.Ruskin’s social criticism mainly focuses on his works such as "to the later","sesame and lily" and "with the tide".Through these works,Ruskin exposed the inequity and injustice of the capitalist society to the most incisively and vividly.However,in fact,Ruskin’s critical thoughts still focus more on the aesthetic aspects of literature and art.In the study of the above problems,this paper mainly adopts the methods of detailed interpretation of the text,careful analysis of artistic works,comparative analysis and drawing lessons from biblical exegesis,etc. |  | Keywords/Search Tags: | John Ruskin, Critical thought, Moral utility, Ecological environment, religion |  |  PDF Full Text Request |  | Related items |
