The emergence of the Deoband sect is the result of the revival of traditional Islam by Indian Muslims since the late 19 th century. In 1867,Muslim scholar Muhammad Qasim Nanautvi(1831-1879)founded the institute of Islamic studies in Deoband. The sect advocates the cleansing of Islam,of non-Islamic traditions and even of the sufi sepulchre. In the 1940 s,a group of Deobandi scholars formed affiliates such as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and the Jamaat Islami. After the partition of India and Pakistan, some former members of India’s Deobandies moved to Pakistan, advocating the establishment of a fundamentalist Islamic state governed by sharia law. From the early days of Pakistan’s establishment, when the Deobandis pushed for the Islamic justice system,to the Deobandis’ participation in the anti-Ahmadiyah movement in 1974,and to the downfall of the Buto government in 1977,the Deobandis’ influence in Pakistan expanded further and promoted the Islamic revival movement in Pakistan. With the rise of Zia Haq,the status of Islam was further enhanced, and sharia law was fully implemented. As the driving force of Huck, the political influence of the Deoband party was greatly increased, and religious parties also rose with it.With the end of the war against the Soviet union in Afghanistan,a large number of domestic and foreign “Mujahideen” remained in Pakistan, bringing religious extremism to the Deobandis, especially in the north west frontier province, where sectarian violence was difficult to control. After Musharraf came to power in1999,as religious extremism continued to create terrorist incidents, western scholars led by the United States regarded the Deoband religious school as a breeding ground for religious extremists, and the Deoband religious school still faced a great threat to its survival and security.Judging from the development of the Deoband sect,it has produced a large number of outstanding religious scholars through religious schools. After graduation, these scholars spread the teachings of the sect to the public, which has had a profound impact on the domestic society of Pakistan. In addition, some of the religious partiesthat acquired the religious school of Deoband developed into forces beyond the government’s control, triggering political unrest. Some extremists of this group often cause violent incidents, which greatly threaten the social economy and public security of Pakistan. The sect also had a major influence on the education of Confucian studies in South Asia and South Africa, producing a large number of religious scholars for these regions and spreading traditional Islamic knowledge.
