On the twentieth of Zhenguan(646),Tang Taizong ordered to rewrite Book of Jin,three years later,compilation of Book of Jin,the original eighteen Jin histories all disappeared.Therefore,Book of Jin has become the main historical document for us to understand the history of Jin Dynasty,and "the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of Book of Jin is the basic historical materials for us to study the emperors of Jin Dynasty.Compared with the various Jin histories and "the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of Book of Jin in the Tang Dynasty,It can be found that the various Jin histories begin with Sima Yi before the Tang Dynasty.So they began to write Jin history from anyone about the western Jin Dynasty involving the limit of revising history.In the early Jin Dynasty,the ministers argued constantly and had different opinions on it,and finally Jia Mi’s opinion was adopted.So why do the various Jin histories begin with Sima Yi?This involved covering up the violent conflict of the transfer of power,making up for the narration of the independent biography of three ancestors in the "The Records Three Kingdoms",drawing lessons from the writing mode of Cao Wei’s national history,publicizing of Sima Yi’s imperial destiny and pioneering nature.On the basis of the reasons of the various Jin histories began with Sima Yi,"the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of Book of Jin in the Tang Dynasty also began with Sima Yi,the reasons also included referring to the various Jin histories,through writing "Xuan Di’s biography" to critique unfaithful and righteous Sima Yi,warn future ministers.Summing up the rise and fall of Jin Dynasty is an important reason for the Tang Dynasty to revise Book of Jin,so why did the Western Jin Dynasty go to extinction after short-lived prosperity?In "the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of Book of Jin,by analyses Tang Taizong and historical officials thought that main reasons for the doom of the Western Jin Dynasty was that the foundation of Jin Dynasty was weak,quality of the emperors,choosing improper successors,the ministers couldn’t save the Western Jin Dynasty and the social customs were bad.In "the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of the Eastern Jin Dynasty’s emperors,In the early Tang Dynasty,the historical officials discussed the rise and fall of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and found that although the Eastern Jin Dynasty was founded because of the destiny,but also ended in the destiny;and the imperial power was weak,the clan monopolize power throughout the Eastern Jin Dynasty;Even if the emperors were competent,they were unable to stop decline of the Eastern Dynasty;and many young emperors succeeded throne in the Eastern Jin Dynasty,some emperors died prematurely,incompetent;So eventually resuscitating the Eastern Jin Dynasty was hopeless.In addition to making a comprehensive record of the history of Jin Dynasty in "the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of Book of Jin,some absurd and mythological narration about the emperors of the Jin Dynasty is also an important feature of "the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of Book of Jin.In the early Tang Dynasty,historical officials wrote "the Biographic Sketches(diji)" of Book of Jin with quoting some gossip,myths and legends deliberately,enveloped emperors of the Jin Dynasty in the halo of gods’ will,to preach destiny,and strength the sense of emperors’ power from gad,weaken the historical responsibility of Jin Dynasty’s emperors for the rise and fall of Jin Dynasty.
