A Contrastive Study Of Cohesive Devices In Chinese And English Modern Narrative Prose Text

Guided by the cohesion theory of Halliday and Hasan,this paper uses contrastive analysis and quantitative and qualitative analysis to make a comprehensive contrast of cohesive devices in Chinese and English modern narrative prose texts,aiming to analyze the similarities and differences of cohesive devices in Chinese and English modern narrative prose and their causes.This paper is divided into six parts.The introduction,mainly introduces the source of the topic,research objects and research methods,research significance and value,related terms.The first chapter elaborates the research results and current situation of cohesion theory at home and abroad,and domestic research results and current situation of the contrast of cohesive methods in Chinese and English texts,and presents existing problems.The second chapter is the theoretical basis of this paper,which defines and classifies the cohesive devices in Chinese and English texts.Including reference,substitution,ellipsis,conjuction,lexical recurrence,lexical collocation,the first four are grammatical cohesion and the latter two are lexical cohesion.The third chapter contrasts and analyzes the cohesive devices of modern Chinese and English narrative prose texts.It calculates the number and proportion of cohesive devices in each of the 20 Chinese and English modern narrative prose texts,and then makes a quantitative comparative analysis of the cohesive devices in Chinese and English texts.and gives some examples from the corpus to make a qualitative contrastive analysis of the cohesive devices,so as to find out the commonness and differences between them.The fourth chapter explores the reasons for the differences in cohesive devicesbetween Chinese and English modern narrative prose texts from two aspects:language characteristics and national thinking mode.The fifth chapter lists the core viewpoints of the paper,and points out the innovation and deficiency of the research.
