The Study On Topic Continuity Of Zero Anaphora In Modern Chinese Narrative Discourse

In the narrative discourse of modern Chinese,Zero anaphora is an important means to achieve topic continuity.Chen Ping’s research on zero anaphora has been concerned with topic continuity,but he prefers oral discourse.This paper selects contemporary excellent novellas as the corpus,through quantitative analysis,to explore the topic continuity of zero anaphora in modern Chinese narrative discourse.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,the main body is divided into four parts:The first part introduces the definition and related concepts of zero anaphora,and expounds the connotation of topic continuity theory and related concepts.The second part,with the topic continuity theory as the main framework,describes the reference distance and potential interference of zero anaphora in modern Chinese narrative discourse,and expounds the use of zero anaphora through data analysis.The third part analyzes the syntactic position and hierarchical distribution of antecedent and zero anaphora in the corpus,and discusses the use of zero anaphora from the perspective of hierarchical structure.The fourth part,from the perspective of topic continuity and hierarchical structure,discusses the characteristics of the use of zero anaphora in modern Chinese narrative discourse,and analyzes the causes of these characteristics.To sum up,after the statistics and analysis of the zero anaphora in the corpus,we have a comprehensive understanding of the topic continuity of the zero anaphora in modern Chinese narrative discourse,and analyze the characteristics and reasons of the use of the zero anaphora in narrative discourse.
