Passive voice is a commonly used structure in English.In some texts,such as legal texts,the use of passive voice is more popular.Because passive voice is mainly used to express facts and highlight the objectivity but it is less used to emphasized the subjectivity of the agent of one action.In the process of translating this legal text,the author finds that passive voice is frequently used more than ninety times.Therefore,the translation of English passive voice in the source text is the key point.Based on this translation practice,the author introduces the definition and classification of passive voice in Chinese and English and makes a comparison between them.The author also further provides two major translation methods of English passive voice on the basis of this project,that is,translating English passive voice into Chinese passive sentence and Chinese active sentence.Through the detailed discussion of some specific examples,the author again emphasizes and summarizes four translation techniques of English passive voice.Because of the universality of the problems raised in this report,the translation techniques proposed in this report aim at providing reference for other people who engage in legal translation and improving the quality of legal translation.In the meantime,the author hopes to provide a readable material for domestic readers who enjoy in reading the history of American laws.
