Critical thinking disposition refers to the disposition of a person to use critical thinking skills when facing problems,evaluating opinions and making decisions(Wang Jianqing & Wen Qiufang,2011).High school students need to have a certain critical thinking disposition to judge information from various channels in the process of English learning.This thesis aims at investigating the overall situations of English critical thinking disposition of high school students,finding out which influential factors affect high school students’ English critical thinking disposition,and putting forward some suggestions for reference.This article studies 220 students in the second grade of high school in Changsha and Chenzhou,and researches the basis of critical thinking theory.It mainly uses questionnaires and interviews as instruments to explore the critical thinking disposition of high school students in the process of English learning.This research mainly answers the following three questions:1)What are the overall characteristics of the senior high school students’ English critical thinking disposition?2)What factors affect different high school students’ English critical thinking dispositions?The research results show that:(1)During the process of English learning,high school students generally show strong critical thinking disposition,but a weak inclination on subscales of truth-seeking,systematicity and self-confidence.There is asignificant difference in gender in English critical thinking disposition among high school students,and male students show stronger critical thinking disposition than female students.There is no significant difference in English critical thinking disposition among students of art and science,and students from different districts.(2)Teacher factors mainly affect the development of critical thinking disposition of high school students.Through interviews,it was found that teachers lacked a thorough understanding of the theory of critical thinking.Due to the pressure of exam-oriented education,teachers agreed that cultivating students’ learning ability is important and all of these reasons directly or indirectly affect the development of critical thinking disposition of high school students.According to the survey results,this research puts forward some suggestions on the development of English critical thinking disposition of high school students:students need to cultivate the spirit of questioning,improve the ability to solve problems efficiently and self-efficacy;teachers should pay attention to the combination of changing the teaching concept and focusing on the ability to ask questions while improving their thinking ability and develop teaching plans that are more suitable for student development.;schools should optimize the allocation of teaching resources and carry out a variety of teaching activities that also can promote the development of students’ critical thinking disposition.
